He was born on October 18, 1917 in [[San Francisco, California]] to [[William Horsley Orrick I]]. He spent his legal career with the firm now called [[Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe]] founded in 1885. He had a brother, [[William Horsley Orrick II]]. He was San Francisco chairman of [[Citizens for Eisenhower]] in 1952, during Dwight Eisenhower's first run for president.
