Note from Scott Kleinberg: I see this is 8 years old but somehow this showed up in an Internet alert just today. With every ounce of due respect to the editor of this article, and releasingrealizing that Trib p.m. is no longer published, I felt it necessary for the record to tell you that Trib pm was my idea and my idea alone, and anyone who has a source who says otherwise is incorrect. When 9/11 happened and we started printing afternoon editions to keep people aware of the latest updates, I realized we had something that needed to continue. We continued it after the invasion of Afghanistan. I went to Frank Craig's office and told him that the feedback was great (I went out into the neighborhoods to hand out the papers along with little pencils for the Pirates scorecards in the middle) and he sat in his chair and put his alligator-skinned shoes on the desk and told me to tell him more. I said that having an additional way to update what we were doing for a different audience had great potential outside of breaking news, and that thinking about celebrities, trending stories and quick reads could be gold. He got me a team of great people to work with and said "go do it and it had better be great."

I was proud of what I suggested and proud of what it was to start. The original team was terrific. The people Craig and Jim Cuddy brought in later changed it for the worse, but that's history. I just wanted your incorrect information to be updated and confirmed by the person mentioned - the person who lived through it and the 65 hours a week of work it took to accomplish.
