Dan Keeling is an English food and wine writer, wine importer and restaurateur. He co-owns Noble Rot magazine, the Noble Rot restaurants,[1] and the wine merchants Keeling Andrew. Keeling previously worked in A&R, where he signed the British rock band Coldplay.[2][3][4]

Career in A&R

edit

After working as a scout at A&M records, Keeling joined Parlophone Records and signed Coldplay in April 1999.[5][6] He also signed Athlete and Lily Allen at Parlophone.[7]

Keeling then became Managing Director of Island Records[8], where he signed English indie-rock band Bombay Bicycle Club.[9]

Wine journalism

edit

In February 2013, Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew founded the triannual wine and food magazine Noble Rot. Their book, Wine From Another Galaxy: Noble Rot[10][11][12] won the 2021 Drinks Book Award from the Guild of Food Writers and was nominated at the 2022 James Beard Foundation Media Awards in the Beverage without Recipes category.[13][14][15]

Keeling was awarded Emerging Wine Writer in 2015[16] and Food & Drink Writer in 2017[17] and 2018[18] at the Louis Roederer International Wine Writers’ Awards. He also won the Fortnum & Mason's Drink Writer of the Year winner in 2016[19] and occasionally writes for the Financial Times.[20]

Noble Rot restaurants

edit

In 2015, Keeling and Andrew opened their first restaurant, Noble Rot Restaurant & Wine Bar on Lamb’s Conduit Street in London.[13] The restaurant won the award for the best wine list at the National Restaurant Awards three years in a row from 2016 to 2018,[21] and won the 2019 award for best Red wine serving restaurant at the World Restaurant Awards in Paris.[22]

They opened a second restaurant in Soho in September 2020[23][24][25] and a third restaurant in Shepherd Market, Mayfair, in April 2023. [1][26][8]
