Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Turkey
Points of interest related to Turkey on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Turkey. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Turkey|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Turkey. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Middle East.

Per WP:NOTNEWS. From what I've been able to find, only primary sources exist on the event with no secondary sources existing on the event. The event does not have in-depth nor continued coverage. Aviationwikiflight (talk) 09:38, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Automated comment: This AfD cannot be processed correctly because of an issue with the header. Please make sure the header has only 1 article, and doesn't have any HTML encoded characters.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 23:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)LöschenThe nom means that Social Sciences University of Ankara i.e., tr:Ankara Sosyal Bilimler Üniversitesi is not University of Ankara. - Altenmann >talk 00:02, 24 July 2024 (UTC)- Draftify: Now it is translated, seems notable, but unreferenced, i.e., needs work. - Altenmann >talk 02:06, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- Notes: I have repaired some malformed syntax in this nomination by reapplying {{subst:afd2}}. I am also not sure if simply blanking the previous redirect (which is, on a technical level, not the same as deletion) to bring this to AfD was entirely correct — redirects are generally handled at RfD, but in looking at the page history this could also be interpreted as an objection to a blank-and-redirect from 2019 (AfDs in that realm normally restore the article content, often concurrently with the nomination, but that was unsourced so I'm hesitant to do so here, even procedurally). (The BLAR was contested at the time too, but with Turkish-language content that does not need to return.) Beyond that I provide no opinion at this time. WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 01:35, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

- @Geschichte: When it was nominated it was wrong redirect. Now the page is translated from tr-wiki, but unreferennced. - Altenmann >talk 02:09, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Although this article has remained unsourced since its creation, I've restored the version before it redirected to the wrong article and a promotional account added content in the Turkish language. The primary question here should be whether this institution is notable. A quick preliminary search doesn't return much independent and reliable coverage. Might have to dig further to find appropriate sources. Aintabli (talk) 10:50, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Looked through Turkish media and not publicly available archives but I didn’t find any sufficient sources for indicating the airways’ notability. Dirubii Olchoglu (talk) 08:44, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

- Interesting thing that is missing from the article and something that I did not expect to see at all today is that this tiny airline apparently went to the European Court of Human Rights with the state of Ireland? It has its own article on here, and on a quick glance seems to satisfy notability. Should this AfD result in delete, some content can be merged into that article for some background information. Styyx (talk) 11:50, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- Comment provides important information about a now-defunct airline that played a role in Turkey's aviation. --Loewstisch (talk) 10:55, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

- Delete - Fails WP:NCORP - no WP:SIGCOV of the airline in independent reliable third-party sources that I could see from a look through the first ten pages of Google results. The airline cannot WP:INHERIT the notability of the ECHR case which anyway had its own article. Parties to ECHR cases - who can be private citizens - are not automatically notable. Feel free to ping me if more sources are found.
- Regarding the assertion that articles about old airlines have "historical" interest, that is not for us to decide with no reference to anything off-Wiki. Instead the interest of historians has to be evidenced by references to articles and texts showing that the subject-matter is of "historical" importance. FOARP (talk) 12:41, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

- Delete per nom. D.S. Lioness (talk) 17:17, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- Keep: WP:SPINOFF The article Turkish invasion of Cyprus only provides an overview of the military activities in three short paragraphs, however this article vastly expands on that information. Any overlap is just enough to provide context to this extra detail Farrier-as (talk) 06:29, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- Keep as a legitimate SPINOFF. Not sure how this could have been nominated or supported. The PRODding without as much as an edit summary was a disgrace. If there is no case whatsoever for deletion, an article should NEVER be considered for PROD! Yet another user moved the article without any debate. Maybe we should limit editing access to this article. gidonb (talk) 16:16, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

- Speedy keep: per WP:SPINOFF and other keep votes above. The sub-topic is notable enough and there is enough sourced information for it’s own article. Lordseriouspig 22:07, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Delete or at the very least change the name to "Combat operations during the invasion of Cyprus" as operation atilla was the name of the Turkish military operation
- Keep and Move back to its original title Military operations during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The article is a legitimate spinoff for military operations during the invasion. Confusion seems to be caused by the fact that earlier this year it was unilaterally and without discussion moved to its current somewhat misleading title.--Staberinde (talk) 15:06, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
