Sir Colin Renshaw Lucas, FRHistS (born 25 August 1940) is a British historian and university administrator. From 1997 to 2004, he was the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University.[1] In May 2006, he was appointed Chair of the Board of the British Library for a four-year term ending 2010.

Early life and education
Lucas was born in Egypt, the son of Frank Renshaw Lucas RA and Janine Charpentier.[2] He was educated at Sherborne and at Lincoln College, Oxford.[3][4]
Personal life
Lucas is the godfather of the politician Boris Johnson.[5] Lucas is married to Lady Marie-Louise.
Honours
In 2002, he was appointed Knight Bachelor for his services to higher education.[4] He has been a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (FRHistS) since 1973. He was awarded an Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France) in 1990, Chevalier Ordre du Mérite in 1994, and Légion d'Honneur in 1998 (Officier in 2005). He was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 2004.[6] In 2013, he was awarded a Doctor honoris causa by Heidelberg University. In 2014. he was awarded a Bronze Bauhinia Star by Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
