Recent edit dispute
Hello,
I recently made an edit to the (Jane Doyle) page, including factual information, which i can verify as true because i live in Adelaide where she read news and watched almost all of her weeknight bulletins during recent years.
the only sources i could link would be to social media pages/forums where fellow viewers mentioned her frequent mistakes and she mentioned her covid diagnosis. 2001:8003:B00B:3A00:648C:DD79:263C:2E6B (talk) 03:51, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- In this scenario, this information shouldn't be included on Wikipedia, because Wikipedia only accepts information that has been reported on by reliable sources. Wikipedia doesn't accept original research (where you collect information or do the research yourself), and it doesn't accept unreliable sources (this would include self-published sources, such as social media posts). This probably wasn't the answer you were looking for, but Wikipedia does have strict policies on how we write about living people, which is why this can't be included unless it's been properly supported by reliable sources. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 03:58, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- does it really matter if an observable fact without sources which rise to this high level is made mentioned of on a wikipedia page, coughing and mincing words are not exactly allegations of criminal offences? 2001:8003:B00B:3A00:648C:DD79:263C:2E6B (talk) 05:03, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yes. We can't put information about a living person without citing a reliable source. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 13:18, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-10
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- The
Special:Book
page (as well as the associated "Create a book" functionality) provided by the old Collection extension has been removed from all Wikisource wikis, as it was broken. This does not affect the ability to download normal books, which is provided by the Wikisource extension. [1] - Wikitech now uses the next-generation Parsoid wikitext parser by default to generate all pages in the Talk namespace. Report any problems on the Known Issues discussion page. You can use the ParserMigration extension to control the use of Parsoid; see the ParserMigration help documentation for more details.
- Maintenance on etherpad is completed. If you encounter any issues, please indicate in this ticket.
- Gadgets allow interface admins to create custom features with CSS and JavaScript. The
Gadget
andGadget_definition
namespaces andgadgets-definition-edit
user right were reserved for an experiment in 2015, but were never used. These were visible on Special:Search and Special:ListGroupRights. The unused namespaces and user rights are now removed. No pages are moved, and no changes need to be made. [2] - A usability improvement to the "Add a citation" in Wikipedia workflow has been made, the insert button was moved to the popup header. [3]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 5 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 6 March. It will be on all wikis from 7 March (calendar). [4][5]
Future changes
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on March 20. This is planned at 14:00 UTC. More information will be published in Tech News and will also be posted on individual wikis in the coming weeks. [6]
- The HTML markup of headings and section edit links will be changed later this year to improve accessibility. See Heading HTML changes for details. The new markup will be the same as in the new Parsoid wikitext parser. You can test your gadget or stylesheet with the new markup if you add
?useparsoid=1
to your URL (more info) or turn on Parsoid read views in your user options (more info).

Nile Tilapia Edits
Hi,
Please unrestrict access to change the Nile tilapia. I'm not sure if it's you but someone keeps changing it to *sra*l and that's not true. As a Middle Easterner, it's embarrassing to affiliate our favourite fish with colonisers. I bet they can't even cook it. So please, even if you won't unrestrict access, change it to the truth - Palestine - as it's factually incorrect. IDK what *sra*l even is.
Thanks, A Middle Easterner that acknowledges apartheid and colonialism. 164.39.153.197 (talk) 12:56, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- The page is currently protected as it falls under a contentious topic, authorized by the Arbitration Committee (see ruling). As such, editing may be restricted to prevent wider disruption to the encyclopedia. If you would like to edit, please make an edit request on the article's talk page explaining what changes you would like to be made. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 13:07, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Question
I am impressed by the velocity at which you revert vandalism. I wanted to know how can you do over 20 edits per minute? Kind regards 14 novembre (talk) 15:10, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- @14 novembre: I use a program called Huggle which makes it easier to find and revert problematic edits. There are other tools and programs out there, but Huggle is generally the most mature. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 15:39, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- @K6ka Thanks for your answer. Anyway, congratulations for your very useful work! 14 novembre (talk) 15:53, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 March. It will be on all wikis from 14 March (calendar). [7][8]
- After consulting with various communities, the line height of the text on the Minerva skin will be increased to its previous value of 1.65. Different options for typography can also be set using the options in the menu, as needed. [9]
- The active link color in Minerva will be changed to provide more consistency with our other platforms and best practices. [10]
- Structured data on Commons will no longer ask whether you want to leave the page without saving. This will prevent the “information you’ve entered may not be saved” popups from appearing when no information have been entered. It will also make file pages on Commons load faster in certain cases. However, the popups will be hidden even if information has indeed been entered. If you accidentally close the page before saving the structured data you entered, that data will be lost. [11]
Future changes
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on March 20. This is planned at 14:00 UTC. More information will be published in Tech News and will also be posted on individual wikis in the coming weeks. [12][13]
