Ray was under discussion at ANI when TOA was created at ACC by Rich Smith. The ANI resulted in Ray being blocked indef by Bbb23. TOA filed an unblock request for the autoblock placed on Ray's IP. The user admits the connection at Special:Diff/1161813805 & Special:Diff/1161814506 and ambiguously hints at another account, "The Olympic Archives has a different account. FYI.". I'd take that as a prompt to checkuser this situation but I'm approaching the limits of WP:INVOLVED. Cabayi (talk) 07:34, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the ping Cabayi, without trying to break the NPD policy, the IP related to the request was part of a HUGE range block that did not have ACB on its parameters. Therefore WP:AGF kicked in and could see no other red flags. This user did request 2 accounts, but we do not allow that at ACC, so only 1 was created. That being said, looking at the diffs...    Sounds like a duck quacking into a megaphone to me who has used their WP:ROPE- RichT|C|E-Mail 07:45, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Most edits from this user are primarily in Olympic topics, which the master primarily edited in. Also, [1], the sock verbatim added what the sock master was adding to similar articles. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:51, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User made this edit [2], which is eerily similar to the sockmaster [3]. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 00:58, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is not what I expected. The account is over a year old, but it only started editing recently, three days after the last sock (TheMNLRockstar, not in the archive) was blocked. It jumped straight into high-speed editing about Olympics subjects, which on the face of it looks an awful lot like the master and their former socks' behaviour. However, they are using completely different ranges from the previous socks. If I were to trust the geolocations, it would put them on a different continent; several of the IPs they're using are known proxies however, which makes me see the CU data as more   Inconclusive than   Unrelated. A closer behavioural evaluation is probably needed than I have time for right now - I may take that no later today if nobody else picks it up. Girth Summit (blether) 14:01, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'm going to go ahead and block and tag as suspected. There is no CU connection, but between the editing pattern, the date when the account started editing, the reinstatement of previous socks' edits, I can't believe it's unrelated. I'll also note that whoever is behind this account, they have done a significant amounts of WP:LOUTSOCKing in the topic area where their account is used, which looks suspicious in itself. Repeated disruptive editing at Canada at the 2024 Summer Olympics by the first two. All three are adding back edits by the blocked sockmaster. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 15:36, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to support Sportsfan 1234's request. The user Lama tanpa dirimu has exactly the same behavior as the user Raymarcbadz had in cancelling edits made by other users because he just doesn't agree with them. Can this be verified? 2A01:CB14:1190:F700:88C8:245B:AB44:E984 (talk) 13:30, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • The fundamental problem in this topic area is there are a large number of editors who make very similar edits, which has in the past involved people whi are clearly not Raymarc restoring his edits. (Cf. my tempblock of Egerer12 (talk · contribs), who I am confident is not Raymarc.) We can see that here with the Viatnemese IP; Raymarc lives in the Philippines and I doubt he is proxying or traveling. So:
    • No action on the IP.
    •   Clerk declined with respect to LTD (unless they come up in another check). The account predates Raymarc's ban, and something like this is well above the level of effort I would expect for a sock under the circumstances. Much more likely, this is just another Olympics editor with similar interests. Noting also LTD's response when 2A01 forum-shopped this to AN/I. The writing style isn't entirely dissimilar to Raymarc's but doesn't ring true as him.
    •   Clerk endorsed with respect to Ephygee1793—brand-new account, much more suspicious.
  • -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 14:11, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unlikely. Wrong continent, and not using obvious proxies. Courcelles (talk) 14:45, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MNLHarbinger is a new account created on August 22, 2023. The account's first edit (a creation) [4] is a carbon copy of the sockmaster's page here [5]. Pretty clear cut here. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 00:40, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am convinced this is a sock. The first edit of this account [6] used "an outright berth" in the body of the article, something the sockmaster also uses [7]. The sock's edits have been almost exclusively on Olympic related topics, which is where the master edited primarily. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 02:24, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  •   Endorsed by a checkuser - the account became active around the same time the last sock was blocked, and it does seem to have the same focus as the master (lots of '<country> and the <year> summer Olympics' articles). On a first pass of the CU data, however, I was initially inclined to say 'unrelated' - Rema97 edits out of a stable range that previous socks of this case have never been seen on, and which geolocates to a completely different country from the master. I checked half a dozen of the individual IPs they've used within that range however, and they were all flagged as proxies of one sort or another, so this might be more 'inconclusive' than 'unrelated', and it's possible that a behavioural examination might be worthwhile. I'd appreciate a second opinion from someone with a strong grasp of proxies - Blablubbs, do you have a minute? Girth Summit (blether) 12:23, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, the master is known for using proxies [8] Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 13:45, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Girth Summit: I don't think they're on proxy.   Unrelated sounds right to me. --Blablubbs (talk) 14:01, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks Blablubbs. Based on that assessment, I'm closing this as unrelated. The editing pattern is suspicious, but I guess Olympics are a fairly popular subject. If their editing is disruptive, report at the appropriate venue. Girth Summit (blether) 14:34, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Two edits, both in articles/template the sockmaster has edited before [11] and [12]. There was an IP sock in November which was banned as well and the article edit added some of this info back [13]. This is getting out of hand, another sock was blocked yesterday for editing in Olympic related articles. Today the edits are in other topic areas to perhaps hide that they are a sock. Hello Sportsfan, why can’t you research the names of those selected by NOCS, update the qualification tables, and revise the articles if necessary for Paris 2024 instead of causing unending chaos and commotion to investigate the sockpuppetry? This has become unproductive and meaningless to the issue. If you have problems with sockpuppets editing Olympic-related articles, report them to the talk page on WikiProject Olympics. Didn’t you know that the qualification articles were created by sockmaster? Please respond immediately. The socks will never stop editing until you tell why you decided to ban the sockmaster. • There are several quite suspicious elements here. The account is over a year old, but only became active about a week after the last sock of this case was blocked. The person behind the account has also created at least one apparent sleeper. However, if it is the same person, they appear to have moved to a different country - same global region, but nothing closer than that. Some strong behavioural evidence would be needed to be confident enough to block -   Behavioural evidence needs evaluation. Girth Summit (blether) 09:38, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
