Medical-surgical nurses provide holistic care for adult patients in a broad range of settings, applying their knowledge to all body systems and disease processes. They are trusted by patients and valued by colleagues as highly skilled and compassionate caregivers. [1]

The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) is a specialty nursing organization dedicated to nurturing medical-surgical nurses as they advance their careers. Its mission is to promote excellence in adult health.

AMSN was founded in 1991 and as of 2008 has members in 50 states and 7 countries. AMSN members are leaders who advocate for patients, mentor each other, and advance nursing practice, all to inspire excellence.

The Core Curriculum for Medical-Surgical Nursing, 4th Edition[2], presents a comprehensive body of knowledge to support AMSN's vision of leadership for medical-surgical nursing practice.
