Villayón

Villayón is a municipality in the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias, Spain. It is bordered on the north by Navia, on the west by Coaña, Boal and Illano, on the east by Valdés, Tineo y Allande and on the south by Allande.

History

Coat of Arms

The 2 Fields in the Top are the Coats of Arms of Navia, where Villayón belonged to until 1868. The third field on the Bottom remembers to the Agriculture.

Prehistoric to 1868

Almost everywhere in Asturia you find Prehistorian Signs, also in the region Villayón. Some Hill Forts and Dolmen are still visitable.
Also the Romans built some Bridges which are used today.
During the Middle Age Villayón belonges to the municipality of Navia.

1868 to ...

Villayón was one of the last to receive its independence in 1868.

Rivers and Lakes

  • The Río Navia passes the municipality .
  • The Waterfalls from Oneta (Cascada de Oneta) are the highest once in Asturias.
  • The (Lake) "Lago Arbón" is a marvelous Lake in the Hills and a touristic Highlight.
