Capital punishment is a legal form of punishment in Vietnam. 34 articles in the Criminal Code cite that the death penalty is an optional punishment. Executions are carried out by a firing squad comprised of seven policemen, while the prisoners are blindfolded and tied to stakes. There are 29 recognized crimes carrying the death penalty in the country.
