Welcome to the Regional and national music taskforce, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Regional and national music.

Goals

This taskforce aims to do the following:

• Standardize and improve existing Regional and national music-related articles
• Create new articles about notable Regional and national music
• Elevate as many Regional and national music articles as possible to Good or Featured status
• Improve Music genre-related articles that discuss Regional and national music
• Expand information in articles about contemporary "fusion" genres that include or are based upon Regional and national music influences

Scope

Featured regional and national music content

This taskforce deals with articles relating to a specific area or people. This includes articles like Music of Sweden, Music of Tanzania, Inuit music, Shinto music, Roma music and Esperanto music; all member articles should be listed at list of cultural and regional genres of music.

In the world today, boundaries are fluid, so the territorial nature of music is changing. There has always been musical migration and cross-pollination, but it's much faster now - due to faster travel and communications, and especially due to computers allowing non-traditional or non-regional musicians to include traditional or regional elements in their work.

Therefore this project also indirectly addresses fusion forms that include or are based-upon the music of one or more regions or cultures. Music from the wider world also now is affecting the music of regions and cultures, so we can also address the effects of those influences on the original forms; are they being lost or surviving on their own, or being preserved with intention?

Departments

Assessment

The assessment department focuses on determining and tracking the quality of Wikipedia's Regional and national music articles; the resulting statistics are used to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. Outreach

The outreach department acts as a central location for various member outreach work, including project newsletters, recruitment and welcoming banners, and other related initiatives.

Review

The review department conducts both informal peer reviews of articles, as well as formal reviews for A-Class status; it also provides a centralized forum for viewing external reviews (such as featured article candidacies) within the project's scope. It will exist when the Collaboration process demands it. The link WP:PR may be useful.

Translation

The translation department serves to enhance Wikipedia's Regional and national music content by translating material from or to non-English articles and sources for use within the project. To coordinate this, it includes a staff of volunteer translators for various languages. This project will exist when someone gets interested.

The department typically works on translating featured articles from or to other-language Wikipedias; project members may request assistance with other material on the department page, or directly from one of the listed translators, should the department ever happen to exist.
