STEVE EARLE

Hi. I don't have time at the moment to make corrections, but wanted to let you know that you have made some mistakes in your edits of the article on Steve Earle. (For instance, he was only in jail about two months.) You rely heavily on a brief CMT web bio, when previous authors had relied on extensive published biographies by St.John and McGee, though they were not always cited well. This is a problem I see often on Wikipedia: references too often are satisfied by web sources, while better researched books are not considered. I will work on it, but do try to go beyond a sketchy web bio if you are going to make such wholesale changes, or simply put a "reference needed" tag. 99.43.32.160 (talk) 18:34, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your Arbitration evidence is too long

Hello, Keithbob. Thank you for your recent submission of evidence for the TimidGuy ban appeal Arbitration case. As you may be aware, the Arbitration Committee asks that users submitting evidence in cases adhere to limits regarding the length of their submissions. These limits, of User:HersfoldArbClerkBot/Length header/Words words and User:HersfoldArbClerkBot/Length header/Diffs diffs maximum, are in place to ensure that the Arbitration Committee receives only the most important information relevant to the case, and is able to determine an appropriate course of action in a reasonable amount of time. The evidence you have submitted currently exceeds at least one of these limits, and is presently at 704 words and 60 diffs. Please try to reduce the length of your submission to fit within these limits; this guide may be able to provide some help in doing so. If the length of your evidence is not reduced soon, it may be refactored or removed by a human clerk within a few days. Thank you! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the case, please contact the drafting Arbitrator or case clerk (listed on the case pages); if you have any questions or concerns about this bot, please contact the operator. Hi. When you recently edited The Civil Wars, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page EP (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Question/Help

Hey, I have worked with you before on the risk parity article as well as financial risk. However, it seems I am having issues with User:Brianmarc on the Downside risk page (and less so on Sortino ratio). I have tried to contact this user on his talk page to try to work together on improving the article, but it seems he is not willing to be cooperative and, in my view, is merely blanking out entire parts of pages (that are cited) without giving reason. I'm not sure how to go forward with this, and was hoping for your help in figuring out what to do. Thank you. Zfeinst (talk) 04:41, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Zfeinst, I can't come to the article and help you as that would be considered the 'canvassing' a friendly editor (by you) to come and be on your side in a dispute. This kind of stacking of the deck is not permitted on Wikipedia. I'm not saying that you were asking me to do that, just letting you know about that rule. However, I can look at the edit history(s) and advise you on how to respond or proceed with an editor who is being disruptive etc. So let me look at the edits and then I'll respond further.--KeithbobTalk 15:48, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Antwort
Thank you. I'm just trying to learn the rules/procedures for dealing with a disruptive/uncivil editor. I appreciate your help. In regards to the situation I mentioned, an admin appears to have intervened already to tell that user to be more civil. But, for future reference, would you mind telling me the procedure that I should do if such a thing happens again? Thank you. Zfeinst (talk) 16:54, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Good. I'm glad an Admin has stepped in. Brianmarc is a rather inexperienced user and may not be aware that Wikipedia has strict policies on WP:CIVILITY and WP:NPA (No Personal Attacks). I haven't looked at all his edits but his edit summaries that say: "keep getting ambushed bt some ignorant wannabe!" and "Fuck you, cocksucket" are not acceptable and if repeated, after a warning from an Admin, could result in a temporary block of the user account. There are various kinds of dispute resolution which are outlined at WP:DISPUTE. There are two basic kinds of disputes: content and behavior. If he continues to be incivil and make personal attacks (behavior) then I would post a note on the talk page of the Admin who has intervened and show him the diffs sample diff here. The Admin will take care of the behavior. If he continues to remove large quantities of content, especially sourced content, like he has here [1] and leaves the edit summary blank and doesn't respond to your requests for an explanation on the talk page; then you could take the matter to the WP:DRN which is a dispute resolution noticeboard for non-specific content issues. Be sure to notify Brianmarc if you open a discussion at DRN so he can participate. Dispute resolution is a complicated, time consuming and painstaking process, but it will give you results if you stick with it. If you need further assistance now or in the future, please feel free to contact me. Wikipedia needs more sincere, civil, collaborative editors like you to help us improve the encyclopedia. So be patient and keep the faith. Cheers! --KeithbobTalk 17:26, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I just saw today's post by Tiderolls [2] which outlines all of Brianmarc's faulty editing. Tideroll's has a history with this editor and is aware of the problems. So if issues (of any kind) continue, just go to Tideroll's talk page for advice. He will help you. Good Luck!--KeithbobTalk 18:00, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Antwort

GOCE March drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Kara Young

Someone named Fasttimes68 keeps getting into editing wars, now it seems with this former model's page. Her husband only "claims" to be a billionaire, it was never reported by a third party source that is actually is. I suggest this matter with this editing person be stopped. He seems to like arguing with other editors regarding models quite often on here. JohnJaySee (talk) 13:04, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've made comments on the talk page. I think there is room for improvement on both sides of this fence. Cheers!--KeithbobTalk 21:42, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Very nice edits on Kara Young. Thank you. Just an FYI, I'm going to follow your edits from time to time to observe how you work. Not stalking, just learning. Fasttimes68 (talk) 21:40, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the compliments on the editing. Cheers!--KeithbobTalk 21:43, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nice job, yes. In viewing the article on Young, the husband's part is not necessary in an article about a model who is notable for her own career, not his. Perhaps the debatable sentence about him should be removed for just that reason alone and it will also avoid further edit warring. 71.183.42.144 (talk) 13:50, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for the compliments. Regarding the text on the husband. That is something that has been discussed on the talk page and if you have input, that would be the place to express it. Cheers!--KeithbobTalk 16:55, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

GOCE March drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

Appreciate your editing of Martin Hosking's BLP and your strong commitment to policy around BLPs. The latest reversion may have removed some of your edits. They were not in my mind controversial so feel free to reinsert (sorry about any additional work). Or to draw (or ignore) any of the factual information inserted in the talk page. Am looking forward to contributing to WP under my brand new memership!. You have modeled for me excellent interaction and selfless contribution towards improving WP and how in turn this has taken a burden off me personally. I am very comfortable with the facts of RB and of what I have tried to do. Incidentally we share a fondness for Eckhart Tolle and a number of other related matters. I will contribute in the Talk Space as needed on both REDBUBBLE and my BLP and will do so in the third person. I don't do this to misrepresent my connection but just so my contributions are given no more (and no less weight than others). I will declare on my user page my conflict of interest in line with WP:COI but will take it as read in relation to REDBUBBLE and the BLP Martin Hosking so I don't need to declare it each time.XcommR (talk) 00:14, 16 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

fyi. I have requested a minor edit to the BLP for accuracy. Also that the article be edited back as it is now split. At some stage would like the Talk Space cleaned up as it contains some malicious material and I understand the wp:BLP policies also apply in talk space. No urgency. Appreciate all your professionalism. XcommR (talk) 12:20, 25 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bored? Haaha..

Did I ever give you one of these invitations? Either way, click and scroll down on the page connected with the little babel box. When I get bored, I either check out the various lists of things to do there. Also, I have kept a list of maybe 5 or 6 articles whose notability is in question. My problem is that I don't like to address those (potentially confrontational) issues, so if you are willing, let me know! *Also, I am truly computer illiterate with the exception of using email, and some Wikipedia and Commons. This especially applies to removing watermarks and frames for the photos I've uploaded. Would you be willing to do any of that stuff? There are a slew of photos in Commons that should be placed in a Category of their own, but I'm ignorant as far as creating categories there properly; and many need more work, too, each really deserves it there, but I can provide a list of them for you as well. Name yer poison! Matter of fact, if you don't like these options, let me know, and I'll have a new list for you!

With so much complex and controversial content, it's unlikely I'd be able to improve the article without so much participation from the community. Hi, I saw your comment about unsourced Derek Trucks edits. I am sick right now, but before you remove more and more from that article, please wait till I'm feeling alright, OK? I did a lot of work on it, both bad and good, and a couple years ago, asked another editor to help clean it up, and the more that is yanked around without knowing where those references actually are could leave the whole biography in two sentences really soon if it continues. I try to avoid WP:OR, but a photographer friend of mine is Derek's Dad's best friend.. so please wait. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 15:48, 25 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

So no worries, take your time, get well, and work on it when you are feeling better. I'm working on other things. Get well soon.--KeithbobTalk 22:09, 25 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of RedBubble

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on RedBubble requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 02:08, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ok I've responded on the talk page. --KeithbobTalk 02:26, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of RedBubble for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article RedBubble is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/RedBubble until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 06:10, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Kevin Ou

In this series of edits, you left a number of richly deserved warning templates at the top of Kevin Ou. I've removed a lot of junk from that article, but the closer I look at what remains the more dubious (or trivial) it seems. An AfD is not unimaginable. I'm sure I could continue cutting junk, but I'm pausing now, because there are more pressing demands on my limited time than this photographer. However, you'd be most welcome to wield your own editorial machete. -- Hoary (talk) 00:47, 5 May 2012 (UTC) OK, will do. --KeithbobTalk 15:10, 5 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

GOCE May mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Template:J

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

History of TM

In your recent edits of the History of Transcendental Meditation article, you left a reference without a full citation. The ref name is Bromley, but there are no details associated with this reference. --BwB (talk) 22:06, 27 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Re: Kara Anastasio

Apologies for the length, this kind of got away from me.

As this isn't primarily about the article subject anymore, I'm responding here. Wikipedia:Proposed deletions are fine, which is what you did. Anyone may remove them, normally by showing that something is not a hoax, including or providing references here, demonstrating notability, or indicating that it would need a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion example. I did not claim that she is notable, but removed the Prod, suggesting that the article be redirected to United States House of Representatives elections, 2004#Ohio (note that #Ohio goes to the corresponding section), since United States House of Representatives elections in Ohio, 2004&redirect=no (the corresponding state sub-article doesn't exist, and currently redirects back there). If deleted, search results would land readers at a page similar to this, while no longer having her article there. Indeed Ohio's 7th congressional district#Election results might be an even better anchor, as showing both attempts simultaneously. First elections rarely need to state 'unsuccessful, they ran again here 2 years later', but subsequent elections often mention 'previously unsuccessful, ran again'. Having identified that she was an unsuccessful candidate but still the nominee and a plausible search term, an attempted redirect should be the first step. Proposing deletion leaves a void, which prompts recreation if left redlinked elsewhere. If the redirect stays, fine; if reverted, the article can be taken to AfD. After your post at article talk & my talk, I initially thought I'd removed an AfD template (a no-no), and was relieved to discover we were just miscommunicating. You may now either redirect it or take it to AfD, where redirect will be the likely result unless notability is established. Questions? Dru of Id (talk) 19:23, 28 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey Dru, thanks for this in depth explanation. So the process is to first propose deletion with a PROD. Then if no-one fixes the issue its taken to AfD for discussion (unless it needs a Speedy, which is another topic we wont' get into). Is that correct? But what if someone removes the PROD tag, like you did? I can still take it to AfD for discussion? That is what I wanted in teh first place. In future can I go direct to that step? Also I'm still not clear on why you removed the tag as you did not solve the notability problem. I guess you are saying you did it because a deletion would take the search to a list page and you think it should be redirected. What I think should be done is that it should be deleted and the search term redirected to either the Ohio election page (cited above) or the John Hagelin/Personal section where we could include a one sentence description of her career. Thoughts? --KeithbobTalk 19:29, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Antwort
I removed the Prod because I think a Redirect is the best outcome, and the most likely outcome (I think it best to assist in getting readers to content, and less likely to tempt recreation). You could just have redirected it, citing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes#Politicians, since there's actually coverage. You Prod'ed it (which was fine, but is supposed to meet the 'no editor would object' guideline, and there is coverage); I've removed the Prod, which cannot be re-applied. The choices are now redirect, or AfD, which will likely have the same result, but gives the opportunity for establishing notability (and drama) but is enforceable, and the result can be locked if repeatably bothered with. While you can go directly to AfD with many articles, editors would normally expect the process which takes the path of least resistance, or they'll complain that adequate prior steps haven't been taken or you're wasting their time, although less likely with your first. Dru of Id (talk) 19:50, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Antwort
So is it OK to just redirect now without goig to AfD? If we redirect now, without going to AfD, what will happen to the current page content? --KeithbobTalk 20:12, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it's ok to redirect it now, although it could be reverted by any editor at any time; watchlist it if you want. The current content remains in the article history; if it were problematic, it could be deleted, recreated, and redirected, or specific edits and their summaries Wikipedia:Revision deletion. Dru of Id (talk) 20:27, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ok, you may proceed as you see fit, but I'm going to just think about these options for now. Thanks for walking me through this.--KeithbobTalk 17:03, 31 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

McKinsey & Co

Hi Keithbob, I wanted to let you know I've provided a dump of historical content, responses and other suggestions on the McKinsey & Company Talk page. There's no rush or anything, but if you do have time your feedback would be appreciated as always. User:King4057 19:07, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'll put it on my list. --KeithbobTalk 19:14, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Keithbob. I just wanted to poke you about the request for feedback on the McKinsey & Company history section from a couple weeks ago and wanted to see if you got a chance to look at it. McKinsey's reputation is a complex animal, so I tried a "stick to the facts" approach before we represent all majority and minority viewpoints later on in a Reputation section. Last drive's superstar, Lfstevens, again stood out, topping the leader board in all three categories and copy-editing over 700 articles. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We were once again successful in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog—while removing 1166 articles from the queue, the second-most in our history. The total backlog currently sits at around 2600 articles, down from 8323 when we started out just over two years ago.

Criteria issues

Hey- I believe the associated acts as I understand it, are those groups which the person in question was a member at some point. Lately, I've seen articles with a litany of every musician who ever even jammed with another person! Eric Clapton, for example, has played with damn near every amazing musician alive. How can they all fit in an infobox? But, if Clapton was a member of a band, such as The Yardbirds, or John Mayall's band, then they qualify as associated acts. If one disagrees with my assessment, then I defy them to figure out what to put as associated acts for session musicians' biographies like the ones for multi-instrumentalist David Lindley, or Waddy Wachtel, both of whom have played with damn near all the greats across genres. However, now that I think about it- back to Eric Clapton, if it is unavoidable to list all the people, or past members, you can always create a little fold thing, where someone must click to see the full list. There's my best guess. Hope this helps. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 03:48, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Here's the official article for the infobox criteria. Hopefully, this works: Template:Infobox musical artist#For articles about individuals. I feel proud that I even came close in my own guesswork! For information about doing anything with album or song pages, I'd ask the following users-- User:Discographer, User:DISEman, and/or User:Wasted Time R. This is why I keep a little list of people I learn from, or learn with on my Userpage for easy access. They're all good folk. :) --Leahtwosaints (talk) 01:05, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Antwort
Thanks, I don't usually work on song or album pages but if I do I'll give them a shout. Gracias, --KeithbobTalk 14:37, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at [email protected]. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:22, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. When you recently edited Parsons College, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Look (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

McKinsey History

Hi Keith. Just wanted to let you know My2011 and I have been working on the draft history section of the McKinsey & Company article we started in May. I just posted an update on his Talk page asking if it was ready for article-space.

You are probably a more senior editor than either of us and I thought you might want to chime in and take a look. I was also poking a bit on the Office Locations section we discussed in May that kind of slipped through the cracks and never got implemented.

Finally, if you're interested, we could use your experience for the upcoming Organization section. There are some unsourced criticisms near the end of that section. Asking to remove content isn't really my bread and butter and I won't declare that no sources exist (lest I get proven wrong). Maybe you could lend some perspective on the best approach? User:King4057 (EthicalWiki) 16:36, 28 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't have a lot of time to spend on it, but I've made some edits to the draft from a content perspective.
I commented that you could go ahead and post the office locations section
First step would be to tag the unsourced text with like this: [citation needed] and then after a reasonable amount of time, if no sources are produced it could be removed. Putting a note on the talk page would also be helpful.
I also think you shouldn't have to chase people to get them to approve changes or additions to the article. You can notify other editors on the article talk or their user talk pages. But WP:COI does not say that you cannot edit or add content.--KeithbobTalk 16:41, 28 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
