Birgir Sigurðsson (writer)

Birgir Sigurðsson is an Icelandic writer born in Reykjavík on August 28, 1937. He was a journalist and then an elementary teacher in Iceland in the 1960s, but then moved to Amsterdam to study singing. While there he quit singing, but became a poet and returned to Iceland as such. He continued to teach, but also did poetry and plays. His play A Day of Hope gaining notice on that end. He has also written novels.

From 1982 to 1986, Sigurðsson was the vice president of The Writer's Union of Iceland. From 1985 to 1987, he served as president of the Association of Icelandic Artists. He was also a member of the Reykjavík Art Festival committee from 1985 till 1987.[1]
