Dr James Popple (born 1964)[1] was the Australian Freedom of Information Commissioner from 2010 to 2014.[2] He is an Adjunct Professor in the College of Law[3] and the College of Engineering and Computer Science[4] at the Australian National University.[5]

He was President of the ANU's Postgraduate and Research Students' Association (1990–91);[1] associate to High Court Justice Mary Gaudron (1995);[6] Deputy Registrar of the High Court of Australia (1996–98);[1] and worked in the Australian Attorney-General's Department (1998–2010).[2] He has been a member of the Council of Burgmann College, ANU since 1985.[1][7]
As part of his PhD research at the ANU (1993),[8] he developed a legal expert system called SHYSTER.[9][10]
