Argentina is scheduled to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016.
Athletics
Argentine athletes have so far achieved qualifying standards in the following athletics events (up to a maximum of 3 athletes in each event):[1][2]
- Men's 20 km walk – 1 quota place (Juan Manuel Cano)[3]
- Men's pole vault; 1 quota place (Germán Chiaraviglio)[4]
- Men's shot put – 1 quota place (German Lauro)
- Women's discus throw – 1 quota place (Rocio Comba)
Field hockey
Men's tournament
Argentina men's field hockey team qualified for the Olympics by having achieved a top three finish at the 2014–15 Men's FIH Hockey World League Semifinals.[5]
- Men's team event – 1 team of 16 players
Women's tournament
Argentina women's field hockey team qualified for the Olympics by having achieved a top four finish at the 2014–15 Women's FIH Hockey World League Semifinals.[6]
- Women's team event – 1 team of 16 players
Football
Men's tournament
Argentina men's football team qualified for the Olympics after sealing triumph at the 2015 South American Youth Championship in Uruguay.[7]
- Men's team event – 1 team of 18 players
Rugby sevens
Men's tournament
Argentina men's rugby sevens team qualified for the Olympics after sealing triumph at the 2015 CONSUR Men's Sevens Championships in Santa Fe, Argentina.[8]
- Men's team event – 1 team of 12 players
Sailing
Argentina has qualified one boat for each of the following events by having achieved a berth from the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships and then filled out the remaining places from the individual World Championships.[9]
- Men's sailboard – RS:X (Mariano Reutemann)
- Men's one-person dinghy – Laser (Julio Alsogaray)
- Mixed multihull – Nacra 17 (Santiago Lange & Cecilia Carranza Saroli)
