- Ardhavisargha is used to mark either jihvāmūlīya (which is a velar fricative [x] occurring only before unvoiced velar stops KA or KHA) or upadhmānīya (which is a bilabial fricative [ɸ] occurring only before unvoiced labial stops PA or PHA).
Usage notes
edit- Sometimes used in contrast with ᳳ with each representing one of the two possible sounds.
- When in contrast, ᳳ for jihvāmūlīya and ᳲ for upadhmānīya
- This character is not limited to Vedic Scriptures.
