Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *-iskos; cognate with Latvian -isks, Samogitian -ėšks, and also with Proto-Slavic *-ьskъ and Proto-Germanic *-iskaz (English -ish, German -isch, Swedish -isk, etc.).
