well the class simply requires the 'revision of an existing document'. the prof is real enthusiastic about wikis so I won't be needing to show much. but because i enjoy it, i'm willing to put in the hours to get the book up to snuff. right now i feel like it has most of the meat but not much in the way of condiments, like an introduction etc. I'm pretty new to the wiki editing but im wanting to learn. let me know where to start - {{unsigned|Icurays1}}

No problem. Tell me exactly what you want to say in English and I'll translate it for you. However do bear in mind, that I'm English myself, so any translation, however grammatically correct, will not sound like a Spanish person speaking. They'll understand completely, but they might well laugh a bit :P. Sorry, I left town before I saw your comment. Yes, I'm excited and welcome any contribution. The project is way too big for me to take on without help. --xixtas talk 02:15, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

My honours thesis

Well the title was "Permutation Codes, Frequency Permutation Arrays and Constant Composition Codes for Powerline Communications". Call it high level would be wrong I think, since it was only an undergrad thesis. As per honours thesis instructions at my university, it's geared toward 4th year mathematics students who haven't taken any courses in coding theory, and so there's a good introduction to the topic. I graduated June this year. Currently looking for work. Here's a pdf of the thesis http://rapidshare.com/files/59765051/honoursproject1.pdf.html . Hopefully it will be useful. (Bengl 14:53, 2 October 2007 (UTC))Reply

If you do a section on constant weight codes, then pretty much all of it can be used. Other than that, I think the intro is quite useful as a general introduction. The section on application to powerlines would be more applicable to one of your other books. So if you think something should go somewhere, let me know and I'll go ahead and insert it, so that my name shows up in the edit history ;). (Bengl 15:21, 2 October 2007 (UTC))Reply
Cool, I'll probably get to that some time tomorrow. Also, I had a similar paper on Reed-Solomon codes, but i can't find it. (Bengl 15:32, 2 October 2007 (UTC))Reply

Pictures for UNDP-APDIP books

Thank you for help. I have reviewed the wikibooks:media information, however, I need your help to ensure I have understood the details. There are books that have copyright images. As per my understanding we will need to request permission from the image owners to use. However, I am told that all APDIP books that are converted to wikibooks follow this principle: "The publication is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License, which explicitly allow copying, redistribution and modification in any form without requiring approval from owner (APDIP), as long as attribution to UNDP-APDIP is given." Would this suffice? Please let me know.

Hi, I see the bot request was declined. My bot has a lot of functionality. I am uncertain what wikibooks needs. Double redirects are a typical problem on any wiki though when I look at the special page, I see it empty. What are the challenges wikibooks is facing as far as bot edits are concerned? -- Cat chi? 22:44, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agree with the merge

I totally agree with merging the wikibook Solving Integrals by Trigonometric substitution into Calculus. The former is poorly written and very confusing. On the other hand Calculus is very straightforward and pithy. What is keeping the merge from happening? --Hamsterpoop 04:07, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Textbook help

Rob,

I want to volunteer for the text book organization project. Let me know if I can help,

-Jeremy

I'm not Rob, but I think I can help you anyway. How are you doing Jeremy? Have you created a user account yet? If not, I highly recommend that you do, for a whole bunch of reasons. The most important reason to have an account is so that you can have your own user talk page where we can communicate. You can always leave me messages here, of course, but I would like a place where I can leave you messages too.
That much aside, if you want to help with organization, you really need to familiarize yourself with what we have already. WB:AS and WB:CCO should be your starting points. Browse around, see what we have, and see what we can do to make things better. If you come up with any ideas or suggestions, let me know and we can start working on a plan.
There are a few simple and practical things that you can get started with now, if you aren't interested in making any big changes. One of the most important things is to make sure books are properly tagged with organizational templates. The {{Subject}} template should be used on the main page of every book. For instance, to make a book about music, we would write {{Subject|Music}}, or, to make a book about music software we would write {{Subject|Music|Computer software}}. Also, the {{Alphabetical}}, {{DDC}} and {{LOC}} templates can be used to organize books. A good place to start is the New books list. Make sure all the books on this list are properly categorized. If a new book is categorized and has been on the list for a week or more, it can be removed from that list by removing the {{New book}} template from the book.
For other assorted help tasks, you can also check out WB:WM. It's like a central hub for maintenance tasks, of which organization is an important one. --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 13:10, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Jello?

Was this edit a typo or do we really have a book on Jello? [[1]] --AdRiley 08:17, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for butting in. I deleted Jello as a dupe of Training Best Practices. I'll change that notice to {{rename|Training Best Practices}} - Mike.lifeguard | talk 14:08, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Antwort

King and Queens of England

I've been thinking about this and agree that this book misses the mark. I also don't think it is likely that the whole book will be rewritten with a more age-appropriate style. I would want to make sure there was consensus for the move first. I'm not sure it really hurts anything being there. -- xixtas talk 01:58, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with some of the authors of the Philosophy of American Education wikibooks. We are currently working on getting the right for an Ag book currently cp owned by the WorldBank. Whilst we were talking, they told me that they had a discussion with you (but did not remember where it was, apparently email, deleted since then) where you explained to them that a book they intended to import in wikibooks could not be imported unless they get the authorization of all authors. I do not know the details and would be happy if you could remember them. But bottom line, they were very disappointed by what you and SBJohnny explained them, and considered creating their own wikibooks where they could put their free books. Finally, they did not do that, whatever the reason. However, in my discussion with them, I was unable to understand what exactly they were NOT authorized to do. And if you remember that discussion, I'd be happy to know more.

Very practically, the book we would like to retrieve is this one (http://web.worldbank.org/WBSITE/EXTERNAL/TOPICS/EXTARD/EXTAGISOU/0,,menuPK:2502803~pagePK:64168427~piPK:64168435~theSitePK:2502781,00.html). I contacted some of authors and they are intrigued and interested by the idea. My question is, if the WorldBank, who is the copyright holder, decides to relicence the book and put it in wikibooks, will there be something like "you must provide a letter signed in blood from all the authors before it is possible ?" Protected C++ programming page

Hi! Happy Thanksgiving! I have observed that the C++ Programming page is protected for last several months and is not serving very useful purpose. It has only three links to disputed TOCs. That page happens to have highest number of hits on wikibooks as far as topic of C++ is concerned. I checked that on enwikibookschart. My suggestion is that it should be replaced with the contents of C++ page, which is much more clear, nicer and directs a reader to the right book for her/her interests. ---- Sutambe 18:57, 24 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Algebra Book

Hi. I'm interested in collaborating with you on the Algebra wikibook. I'm taking a technical writing class this semester and could use the project for the class. let me know what i can do to help, you seem to be the main editor recently. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Icurays1 (talkcontribs)
