Broadway is an unincorporated community in Crosby County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 20 in 2000. It is located within the Lubbock metropolitan area.

History

"Uncle" Shorty Reynolds suggested the name Broadway for the community due to how wide the surrounding prairie was. He built the first general store in the community around 1924. A gin that R.A. Crausbay built at the crossroads was where Ira Benton brought the local mail to around 1926. They closed in the mid-1980s but were still standing. Broadway had a population of 20 in 2000.[2]

Geography

Broadway is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 82 and Farm to Market Road 836, 45 mi (72 km) east of Lubbock in eastern Crosby County.[2]

Education

Today, the community is served by the Crosbyton Consolidated Independent School District.
