Broadway is an unincorporated community in Crosby County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 20 in 2000. It is located within the Lubbock metropolitan area.
History
[edit]"Uncle" Shorty Reynolds suggested the name Broadway for the community due to how wide the surrounding prairie was. He built the first general store in the community around 1924. A gin that R.A. Crausbay built at the crossroads was where Ira Benton brought the local mail to around 1926. They closed in the mid-1980s but were still standing. Broadway had a population of 20 in 2000.[2]
Geography
[edit]Broadway is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 82 and Farm to Market Road 836, 45 mi (72 km) east of Lubbock in eastern Crosby County.[2]
Education
[edit]Today, the community is served by the Crosbyton Consolidated Independent School District.
