Meanwhile Nileena , the best friend of Sumithra arrives from the US and decides to spend time with Sumithra.She decides to take her to a get together with their old college friends.They book a resort and happily spend their time there. but much to the shock of Sumithra and Nileena , they discover that Siddharth and his personal assistant and their family friend Vedika Sampath were having an illicit relationship. Vedika have a son named Neerav in her past marriage and she is seperated from her husband Sampath. Sumithra is shattered on knowing this but still she manages to live with him for the sake of their children. |

On the other hand, Anirudh is in love with Ananya, a medical student and the only daughter of rich parents in the same college where Anirudh studies. On knowing this, the family decides them to get engaged. There too Sumithra gets insulted by Ananya's mother, Prema but she doesnt take it into consideration. Then it is also revealed that Pratheesh is in love with Sanjana, the daughter of Ramakrishnan. Sumithra tries to talk with Ramakrishnan to make her son's wish come true but Ramakrishnan opposes this. On the same day of Anirudh's marriage ,Sanjana's Marriage is also fixed and Ramakrishnan hires some thugs to kill Pratheesh. But luckily Pratheesh escapes and is badly wounded and gets admitted in hospital. Because of this, Sumithra goes to the hospital instead of participating in the marriage which irks everyone. Everyone blames Sumithra for the mishap. Meanwhile Sanjana gets married to Maneesh. When she comes to know about Pratheesh's condition, she comes to the hospital and seeks apology. Pratheesh forgives her and advices her to accept the truth and move on. |

Sumithra also advices Pratheesh to move on in his world and pursue his passion for music. Then, Ananya hates Sumithra initially and behaves hostile to her because of her traditional ways. Eventually when Sumitra saves her from an embarassing situation, She patches up with Sumithra and loves her and supports her. Meanwhile the family comes to know about Siddharth-Vedika relationship and much to the horror of Sumithra, Sarasawathi, Anirudh and Sheethal support Vedika as she is educated and not like Sumithra. |

Eventually Siddharth and Sumithra apply for a mutual Divorce and Siddharth moves out with Vedhika. Sheethal choses to live with her father as she was unaware of Vedika's intention.She then suffers a lot due to Vedika who make her do all odd jobs amidst her exams and makes her travel through bus, to which she is not exposured before. She realizes her mistake but chooses to adjust for the sake of her father. But as the situation grows worse. Sheethal attempts suicide and ends up in hospital. She is taken care by Sumithra and a complaint is filed against Vedika in which she gets arrested. But Siddharth changes the mind of Sheethal and make her tell that whatever written in the complaint was false and makes Vedika free. Sheethal again also leaves with her father ignoring Sumithra's pleadings. But Sampath, Vedhika's ex husband demands Siddharth and Sheethal to leave his home to which they have to obligue. Then Sheethal and Sumithra returns to Sumithra's home . |

Then Sheethal's results come out where she had passed out with flying colours. Siddarth and Vedika arrange a party for Sheethal where she plots to badmouth Sumithra and praise Vedika. She also tells Sheethal about this. But much to the shock of Vedika, Sheethal praises her mom for her acheivements and starts supporting her mother. Sumithra starts a small textile business and earns well through that.In a short span of time, her designs get a lot of fame and she starts a shop named Sumithra's textile. The business goes very well. Meanwhile Siddharth and Sumithra gets divorced much to the joy of Vedika. They plan for getting married and on the day of marriage, Pratheesh creates a scene in the hall after seeing his mother's sorrow. Anyway,the marriage happens. But Shivadas forbids Siddharth and Vedika from entering the house and tells that he has only one daughter-in-law and that is Sumithra. Vedika then rents the house opposite to Sumithra's home and creates troubles for Sumithra but she ignores it. |

Meanwhile she gets along with her classmate Rohith Gopal who is a rich business man and a widower. He helps Sumithra to grow in her business and her business grows very fast and she even takes up the responsibility of the garments section of Rohith's firm. Meanwhile Vedika loses her job as per her company policy that husband and wife can't work in the same place. Whereas she gets jealous of Sumithra's growth and tries to damage her reputation at any cost. She tries her best to create a bad name for Sumithra by all means, only to be failed everytime. Meanwhile, Siddharth realizes that he had done a big mistake by leaving a loving wife like Sumithra and marrying Vedika, who is a cunning women who doesn't even realise her husband's difficulties. He decides not to taunt Sumithra again after hearing the words of Vedika. By this time Sanjana's husband Maneesh dies due to an accident and her father plans to make her marry an old man for his business after the death of Maneesh. After knowing this, Sanjana lashes out from her home but Sumithra promises to Sanjana that she will be safe. Vedika also tries to oppose this but much to her shock, Siddharth supports the wedding. Even after giving police protection to the marriage hall, Sumithra successfully manages to get Sanjana out of the marriage hall and make Pratheesh tie the knot to his long lost love. After seeing this,Ramakrishnan openly vows to take revenge against Sumithra but he doesnt do anything after thinking about his daughter. After being fed up trying to destroy Sumithra ,Vedika comes up with a new plan against Sumithra. She makes a staff, Preeta from Sumithra's textiles to give a case against Sumithra for sexual harrasment at workplace. She also brainwash Preeta's mother that she was an aide of Ramakrishnan, Sanjana's father who had grudge against Sumithra for making her daughter marry Pratheesh. Now Sumithra goes into a big trouble as its a non bailable offence and the entire family gets tensed. But Sumithra still have faith that as she didnt do anything wrong so that it wont affect her and decides to go on. Meanwhile, The DCP urges the CI to arrest Sumithra at any cost. |

Kudumbavilakku (transl. Light of the family) is an Indian Malayalam-language television soap opera drama.[1] The show premiered on Asianet channel and has streamed on Disney+Hotstar since 27 January 2020. Meera Vasudevan portrays the lead role in the series, returning to television after thirteen years.[2][3][4]
The series is produced by Chitra Shenoy under Good Company Productions, is an official remake of Bengali TV series Sreemoyee which depicts the story of a hardworking housewife Sumithra (played by Meera Vasudevan), who is not acknowledged or appreciated for her work. Then she decides to rediscover herself and prove her worth.

She left college after her marriage to raise her three children. She runs a business of ethnic fabric and handicrafts and has a hidden talent in singing and cooking.
- Krishnakumar Menon as Sidharth "Siddhu" Menon: Shivdas and Saraswathi's son; Sharanya's brother; Sumithra's ex-husband; Vedhika's husband; Anirudh, Pratheesh and Sheethal's father. He married his colleague Vedika after divorcing his first wife Sumitra. He humiliated Sumithra and considered her only for domestic work when they were married.
- F. J. Tharakan as Shivadas Menon: Saraswathi's husband; Sidharth and Sharanya's father. He helps Sumithra to get Sidharth back from Vedika. He always supports Sumithra and treats her as his own daughter.
