Information icon Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living persons, as you did to Mike Lee. Thank you. Politrukki (talk) 13:58, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Politrukki: WP:DTTR. Especially long after it's been reverted. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 05:01, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay. I didn't see you had finally responded. I didn't template you. I followed WP:TR. I didn't read the article history until I saw Discospinster's edit being reverted. Your violation was so egregious that I had to warn you. Don't try to wiggle away from this.
If I make serious mistakes, I would like to someone notify me. So far I think I have made only major BLP blunder (and once or twice accidentally reverted to wrong version after intervening vandalism edits from multiple IPs), but I caught the error before anyone else did and lectured myself. Politrukki (talk) 20:43, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Politrukki: Do not edit my talk page again, I'm not interested in any feedback from you. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 22:01, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

I saw on the Adoptees page (Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters) That you are accepting new adoptees. I would like to be adopted to learn the ins and outs of editing. I've mostly done copy edits, but have added 1 citation on Transport Scotland, and have added Links to other articles on a few occasions. If you are willing to accept me, I live on the east coast and use EDT at the moment. I am available 5PM to 10PM on Weekdays and 10AM-10PM on weekends unless I say otherwise, which I don't often do. I have edited 27 articles last I checked. Random Editor135 (talk) 19:51, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Random Editor135. I typically don't accept editors as new as you for adoption, but since you are willing to devote a significant amount of time, I may make an exception. What are your reasons for wanting to edit Wikipedia? What do you want to learn more about specifically? โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 02:38, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! I am a tech nerd and Floridian, so I can do articles about Florida and consumer electronics. I am in school still, so I am able to do articles about language arts and science, as those are my best classes. But I am unable to start until Friday as I have family coming over this week. Request for Adoption

Hey, can you adopt me (in wikipedia)? I've been recently blocked, and my extended confirmed was taken away after I "cheated the system" by making a ton of dummy edits. Is it possible you can help me become a "better wikipedian"? Senor0001 (talk) 15:05, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kari lake

Please revert you insertion of โ€˜far rightโ€™ into Kari Lakeโ€™s bio.

The term โ€˜far-rightโ€™ is losing meaning because of its growing use as a conservative slur. This has created a void within the conversation within which actual far-right politics can exist unnoticed, without any suitable label.

Politicising Wikipedia is a very bad idea. 2001:EE0:1A6D:EE25:690D:DD23:C71C:95E8 (talk) 05:23, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We follow reliable sources which say there is a difference between traditional conservatives and far-right conservatives. It's not a slur in any way, shape, or form... it's a difference in political ideology. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 05:29, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please properly discuss in talk page of article instead of edit warring

I am concerned that you refuse to properly discuss the contentious material about Tudor Dixon that you reincorporated. I had questioned and challenged said info for being inaccurate and I tried to reword it in a more neutral way. In addition, you also seemingly ignored the arbitration ruling that I included in the edit summary of my edit removing said challenged contentious information.

Said ruling states,

In cases where the appropriateness of material regarding a living person is questioned, the rule of thumb should be "do no harm." This means, among other things, that such material should be removed until a decision to include it is reached, rather than being included until a decision to remove it is reached.

According to WP:CONSENSUS,

Decisions on Wikipedia are primarily made by consensus. [...] Decision making and reaching consensus involve an effort to incorporate all editors' legitimate concerns, while respecting Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

According to WP:EDITWAR,

An edit war occurs when editors who disagree about the content of a page repeatedly override each other's contributions. Editors engaged in a dispute should reach consensus or pursue dispute resolution rather than edit war.

You mentioned an unspecified editor in the edit summary of your revert. In the talk page of the article, in the relevant thread (titled "Restoration of contentious info in place of neutral language ") the only other editor is the ip user, who actually stated, "Why not quote what she actually said/believes, that: 'Liberal policymakers are pushing COVID-19 vaccines on our children and forcing parents out of the process'".

Finally, I see the sheer quantity of the edits you have and your permissions. Surely one would expect that an editor with said characteristics would seek more proper discussion instead of seemingly ignoring Wikipedia guidance and unilaterally reverting others edits while refusing to properly discuss. Thinker78 (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but I don't intend to get drawn into a prolonged discussion with you about a single well-sourced sentence. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 02:57, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is clear we have a dispute and that I had questioned the contentious information, meeting the threshold of the arbitration ruling. If you didn't want to discuss then you should not have reincorporated contentious information in a biography of a living person. Now I will seek dispute resolution. Thinker78 (talk) 03:05, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I did discuss. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 03:08, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

sorry if this doesn't fit this conversation, but do you mind if you'll adopt me? i'd like to use some help in copyediting, making my userpage look better (like yours) and for music recommendations!! its fine if you won't adopt me Tsuthehottest! (talk) 00:38, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Tsuthehottest!: Unfortunately adoption is not best suited for brand new editors such as yourself. I'd be happy to help you with any of that though! โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 02:02, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ah okay, ty! question though, can you tell me more about adoption? Tsuthehottest! (talk) 11:41, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Tsuthehottest!: The Adopt-a-user program is designed to teach committed Wikipedia editors the ins and outs of Wikipedia. It's like a school course for editing.
I could be a newcomer mentor for you, which just allows you to easily ask me questions anytime. If you'd like that, let me know and I'll assign you as my mentee. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 17:43, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rick and Morty title card

Explanation? Throast {{ping}} me! (talk | contribs) 11:56, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Throast: Most TV shows seem to use the non-free title card for the infobox image. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 18:48, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
First off, not a great argument, and not the case in quite a few featured- or GA-level TV series articles, see The Simpsons, House (TV series), Family Guy, Cold Feet, The Emperor's New School for examples. In this case, the title card only features the logo against a black background and is essentially the same as the SVG logo, only low-resolution and non-scalable. Whataboutism aside, I don't see any great arguments for including the title card over the SVG logo. Throast {{ping}} me! (talk | contribs) 19:23, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Start a talk page thread and we can see what others think. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 19:31, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So far, you're the only one objecting, so it'd be great to hear at least some substantive arguments. You gotta love an editor who reverts without explicit cause and, when confronted, passes on the issue to the article talk page... Throast {{ping}} me! (talk | contribs) 19:46, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Throast: Per MOS:TVIMAGE: "For a show's main article, an intertitle shot of the show (i.e., a screenshot capture of the show's title) or a promotional poster used to represent the show itself should be used." Gotta love an editor who nags and nags about a single revert restoring the policy-backed WP:STATUSQUO. โ€“โ€“FormalDude (talk) 22:20, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

Hi FormalDude, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! TheSandDoctor Talk 19:55, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
