Speedy deletion nomination of :DanceAbility International
A tag has been placed on :DanceAbility International requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

Ironstone china
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. <!-- Template:Db-notability-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> --IShadowed 00:21, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for this excellent article. I actually added the first pottery reference to the Ironstone disambig page - at that time there was no WP reference to ironstone pottery at all! --Ef80 (talk) 10:29, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
The GIMP Project
Michele Colucci
I needed to introduce some new referencing methods to The GIMP Project while updating it. Shortened footnotes are good for books with page numbers. In this case I used them because one of the references to the book needed extra information about the quote used and this was a tidy way to have only one citation for the book itself. This is described in Help:Shortened footnotes.

Hi! I recently wrote an article on this notable female entrepreneur, and I would appreciate if you would please consider contributing to the ongoing discussion about possible deletion of this article. Thank you. --Vindeniträden (talk) 21:51, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
If a reference gets very long it can make the article source more readable to define it in the reference list. I did that for the reference explaining the Gale quote. This is described in Help:List-defined references. One can place some, most or all definitions in the reflist depending on what might seem tidiest... --Mirokado (talk) 00:52, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
:Thank you so much for the reference help. I need to give some of these a try. There are a few different ways, it seems, to do multiple citations for one author. The one you mention looks like the simplest, for me anyway.OttawaAC (talk) 22:07, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
:: You're welcome. I see you have already started using sfn, very nicely too. It is necessary to use the last=, first= or last1=, first1=, last2=, first2= etc parameters systematically so the author last names are available. The automatically generated linkage includes the year. I updated National Theatre Workshop of the Handicapped‎ with corresponding corrections. If you install the script described at User:Ucucha/HarvErrors it will provide nice red warnings when something does not match up. --Mirokado (talk) 13:33, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I've just noticed that the lead switches from present tense to past tense. This looks wrong but I can't see how to change it... --Mirokado (talk) 16:28, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
:I just copy edited to make it a little clearer. It does contain both present and past tense -- I was trying to summarize the company's current work, but also include the fact that since it was founded in 1977, thousands of people have participated in the company's programs. That sentence has to be in past tense -- I can't accurately say that "thousands" of people presently participate in the company's programs. Anyway, I hope it's a bit clearer now that I've reworded it a little, let me know if I should have another try with it.OttawaAC (talk) 22:00, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
:: Sorry, I forgot that I had mentioned that in the final paragraph above, I was thinking of the lead in The GIMP Project. Please could you have a look at that too? --Mirokado (talk) 22:05, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 19
I had no idea such a list existed. I'm alive and well. The reason for the long absence is that my laptop went kaput, so you could say technical issues. Getting a replacement hasn't been a priority yet. I'm on the Web right now using my e-reader, which is a great gadget but too slow for editing WP. I could be back by this Summer... maybe if the urge to edit strikes, I could use a terminal at the public library. Thank you for thinking of me, I do miss editing! == WikiProject Disability ==

Hi, I'm just curious as to why you've added ORACLE (teletext) and Park Avenue (teletext soap) to the project. They don't immediately spring to mind as disability-related topics, but I guess I could be wrong. Paul MacDermott (talk) 13:44, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
:I'm probably misunderstanding the technology. Is teletext not for use of disabled TV service users? I've given them low importance, since they are obsolete, but it's still relevant historical info, IMO. I could well be wrong, though, as I said I'm not familiar with the technology. My reasoning was that they would fall under the umbrella of "disability culture"...OttawaAC (talk) 13:46, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
::Actually it's probably ok to add them, and thinking about it you could have a point. Teletext is a news and information service, but I think they were also one of the pioneers of subtitles for the hard-of-hearing, so I think that make them eligible to be included. Paul MacDermott (talk) 13:52, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
:::It's sorta one of those grey fuzzy areas... Teletext can be considered assistive technology for anyone who is hearing impaired. A lot of tech products and services can be considered assistive technology to someone, depending upon the disability. I think a lot of tech products play it up as part of their marketing, even if the tech is originally aimed at a broader audience. Remote control devices are a similar example. I've included those in the project too, as assistive tech. OttawaAC (talk) 13:56, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
::::It seems the initial aim of Ceefax (the BBC's teletext service) was actually as a means of assistive technology, as it was apparently developed by engineers who were looking for a way to provide on-screen subtitles (see here). I've learnt something new today, so good work for including them. Paul MacDermott (talk) 14:20, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Article: Women in Nazi Germany
Hi, saw that you started the english version (as a translation from french) and did the main work. I found it most interesting, and since so much of your time and effort went into it, I think you might perhaps still be interested about it's development.

I stumbled upon that sample quote of kitschy and pernicious nazi indoctrination in the section The NS-Frauenschaft: "You must still grasp, children [...]". As it's given as a verbatim quote, but based on a french source, I looked if I could find the german original wording for cross-checking. There are some errors and ommissions. Perhaps you could find someone who can fix the translation.

I found the corresponding original quote in german here, on page 8:

* author: Susanne Blumesberger
* title: "Von Giftpilzen, Trödeljakobs und Kartoffelkäfern – Antisemitische Hetze in Kinderbüchern während des Nationalsozialismus"
* puplication: - Magazin für jüdisches Leben in Forschung und Bildung"
* year: 2009
* issue: Ausgabe 5.

Download:
http://medaon.de/pdf/A_Blumesberger-5-2009.pdf, PDF, 113 kBytes, 13 pages.

You'll find this link by searching for "Haarer" at http://medaon.de/index-en.html. (The html-version of the article seems to be no longer available.)

If you wish to answer, please do it here. (My mobile IP will always change each time I go online.) Best regards. -- 46.115.38.28 (talk) 05:31, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
:I'll take a look. I don't read German myself, but I know someone fluent in RL who could translate for comparison's sake. If corrections are needed, I'll make the revision. The article does point out that it is an example of Nazi propaganda. OttawaAC (talk) 09:18, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
::I added the original German version as a side-by-side direct quote, thank you so much for pointing me towards the original as printed in the magazine article. I cited it as well. Very helpful, and with machine translation, plus basic grammar adjustments, it looks more accurate. I took one year of German, I hope it helped.OttawaAC (talk) 01:06, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Invite to the African Destubathon
Disambiguation link notification for November 6
Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Greetings!
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the proposed deletion/dated notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing proposed deletion/dated will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> &ndash;&nbsp;Arms &amp; Hearts (talk) 19:46, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Hey there OttawaAC, can you please add on additional content on the Theresa Spence article from the articles listed above? Unfortunately i'm quite strapped with time at the current moment, and will be for some time, and i hope that some of the content above can make it onto the wiki article. Normally i would be more than delighted to add and contribute content on wiki articles myself, but unfortunately i couldn't do this yet any time soon, because it takes a while for me to, well, present the material and a polished way. I really hope if you can please add the content onto the article. Thanks! Nguyen1310 (talk) 02:06, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Notice of neutral point of view noticeboard discussion
Hello OttawaAC. I'm impressed by all the articles you have written over the past two years. I see many of them are on the arts and media with lots of biographies. That's why I thought you might like to help with this year's drive for Women's History Month which is devoted to women in photography. (I've included a word on the WP Women's History talk page.) If you are interested in participating, I thought you might like to have a look at this which cites a number of Canadian women who contributed to photography in the early days. Maybe you would be interested in writing a few biographies? And with your knowledge of French, you could also look at some of the French-language biographies of women photographers for inclusion in the English wiki. Interested?--Ipigott (talk) 12:02, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

::Great! There's no real rush so just take your time. When you create the biographies, you might like to include the names in List of women photographers which I am revamping in a sandbox at the moment. The new country-by-country version should be up today or tomorrow.--Ipigott (talk) 09:29, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

I am Petros Apostolopoulos, a Ph.D. candidate in Public History at North Carolina State University. My Ph.D. project examines how historical knowledge is produced on Wikipedia. You must be 18 years of age or older, reside in the United States to participate in this study. If you are interested in participating in my research study by offering your own experience of writing about history on Wikipedia, you can click on this link https://ncsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9z4wmR1cIp0qBH8. There are minimal risks involved in this research.
Dear OttawaAC, I have been taking a look at that article most of which you conceived and wrote. Unfortunately it seems that lots of the quotations and references are flawed (missing refs for quotation template quotes, no correct refs for quotation template quotes, use of cf. when not needed, lack of cf. when needed etc.). Also, the text contains many errors, as do the quotations. As the original author, maybe you could take a look and do the necessary corrections? Kind regards, 㓟 (talk) 19:48, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
: I'm not the one who actually wrote it. It was created as a "child" article of Deconstruction, were most of the content originated (it was a couple of sections from that article that were split off). I didn't do the research, so I don't know where the citations would be. Please feel free to edit it and make corrections.OttawaAC (talk) 22:32, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Ironstone china

[edit]

Thanks for this excellent article. I actually added the first pottery reference to the Ironstone disambig page - at that time there was no WP reference to ironstone pottery at all! --Ef80 (talk) 10:29, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have been mentioned at Wikipedia:Missing Wikipedians. XOttawahitech (talk) 10:42, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Contests

[edit]

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:35, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Danielle Bleitrach

[edit]

The article Danielle Bleitrach has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NACADEMIC

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —swpbT 14:00, 19 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
