As part of Peugeot’s 200th anniversary celebrations, the brand’s design offices wanted to create a stunning creation. The EX1’s architecture reminds previous charismatic concept cars from Peugeot such as the Asphalte and 20Cup. Shaped like a “water droplet”, with a rear section built around two closely set rear wheels, the EX1 is far from being a “classic” roadster.
The EX1 broke six speed records for an electric vehicle weighing less than {{convert|1000|kg||abbr=on}}. From a standing start, the EX1 recorded the following times: 1/8 mile (8.89s), 1/4 mile (14.4s), 500m (16.81s), 1/2 mile (23.85s), 1000m (28.16s), and 1 mile (41.09s).<ref name="eurotuner09">{{cite web|url=http://www.eurotuner.com/news/eurp_1009_peugeot_ex1_electric_speed_record |title=Peugeot EX1 Concept Sets Electric Speed Records |publisher=eurotuner |date=2010-09-22 |access-date=2011-02-18}}</ref> It recorded a {{convert|0|-|60|mph|km/h|abbr=on}} run of 2.24 seconds and an overall top speed of {{convert|161|mph|0|abbr=on}}.<ref name="electrovelocitycom">{{cite web|url=http://electrovelocity.com/2010/09/22/stunning-peugeot-ex-1-unveiled |title=Stunning Peugeot EX 1 Unveiled |publisher=ElectroVelocity |access-date=2011-02-18}}</ref>

At the Taipingsi military airport in [[Chengdu, China]], the EX1 improved upon several of those records, recording 7.08 seconds for the 1/8 mile, 12.67 seconds for the 1/4 mile, and {{convert|0|–|100|km/h|mph|abbr=on}} in 2.24 seconds.<ref name="eurotuner12">{{cite web|url=http://www.eurotuner.com/news/eurp_1012_peugeot_ex1_ev_breaks_records |title=Peugeot EX1 EV breaks records in China |publisher=eurotuner |date=2010-12-22 |access-date=2011-02-18}}</ref><ref name="monstersandcriticscom">{{cite web |url=http://www.monstersandcritics.com/lifestyle/autos/news/article_1607263.php |title=Peugeot with record drive in electric EX1 concept |publisher=M&C |author=Deutsche Presse Agentur |date=2010-12-22 |access-date=2011-02-18 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121012082147/http://www.monstersandcritics.com/lifestyle/autos/news/article_1607263.php |archive-date=2012-10-12}}</ref><ref name="060mag">[http://www.0-60mag.com/news/2010/12/cars-peugeot-ex1-sets-new-electric-records/ Concept Or Not, Peugeot EX1 Is One Fast EV] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131224082830/http://www.0-60mag.com/news/2010/12/cars-peugeot-ex1-sets-new-electric-records/ |date=2013-12-24 }} ''0-60mag''. The two-seater roadster has a mechanical design which reminds an “exoskeleton”. It highlights the light-weight nature of the vehicle. The EX1 features the new stylistic design codes from Peugeot, first presented on the SR1 concept in earlier 2010. The monocoque body structure is manufactured from a carbon/honeycomb composite to optimise weight and rigidity. Thanks to its small dimensions (0.90m of high and width of 1.77m) the EX1 has its overall efficiency enhanced, with a lower centre of gravity and optimized aerodynamics.

The Peugeot EX1 Concept is an electric concept car developed by the French automaker Peugeot, introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

Design

[edit]

Developed as part of Peugeot’s 200th anniversary celebrations, the EX1 Concept is a 2-door roadster with two electric motors that provide 250 kW (335 hp) and 480 N⋅m (354 lbf⋅ft) of torque.[1][2] The monocoque body structure is manufactured from a carbon/honeycomb composite to optimize weight and rigidity, with a smaller rear track than the front. The car is 0.90 meters (3.0 feet) high and 1.77 meters (5.8 feet) wide.

Performance

[edit]

The EX1 broke six speed records for an electric vehicle weighing less than 1,000 kg (2,200 lb). From a standing start, the EX1 recorded the following times: 1/8 mile (8.89s), 1/4 mile (14.4s), 500m (16.81s), 1/2 mile (23.85s), 1000m (28.16s), and 1 mile (41.09s).[3] It recorded a 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) run of 2.24 seconds and an overall top speed of 161 mph (259 km/h).[4]

At the Taipingsi military airport in Chengdu, China, the EX1 improved upon several of those records, recording 7.08 seconds for the 1/8 mile, 12.67 seconds for the 1/4 mile, and 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 2.24 seconds.[5][6][7][8]
