After the Munich Olympics, Octavian Vintila retired from high level fencing and started a lifetime career in sports reporting for Romania's public radio station. He remained an officer of the Romanian army through his lifetime affiliation with his club, Steaua Bucharest, and became a well known voice in sports reporting. He studied physical education (ANEF) and journalism, and covered all the Olympics until Beijing, 2008. One of his epic broadcasts was the artistic gymnastics competition at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, which opposed Nadia Comaneci (ROU) and Elena Davydova (USSR) for the gold medal in the all-around contest, and which was marked by a 38 minutes judging scandal over Nadia Comaneci's beam score. Octavian Vintila covered live the 38 minutes suspension of the competition and highlighted on the public station Radio Romania the political stakes of the struggle for the gold medal between the two countries. He later admitted that his statement was made (and considered) as a political contestation of USSR's political supremacy over Romania. After 1990, Octavian Vintila became the voice of the early morning countrywide broadcast "Matinal". His famous opening line "Sarutmana doamnelor si domnisoarelor, buna dimineata domnilor" became a cult phrase among millions in Romania. Octavian Vintila was the president of the Romanian National Sports Journalism Association (NSJA Romania, am member of the International Sports Press Association) <ref name="AIPS">{{cite web |url = http://www.aipsmedia.com/index.php?page=news&cod=604&tp=n#.VshilYSJoU0}}</ref>. </p><p>'''Books'''.
