After completing his schooling at the Doon School, Dehradun, he went on to complete a bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Delhi. Thereafter, he pursued a Master’s in business administration (M.B.A.) from the International Management Institute, New Delhi, which he completed in the year 1999.

Raghav Lakhanpal entered the field of politics at the relatively early age of 26, after the tragic assassination of his late Father Sh, Nirbhay Pal Sharma, who was an immensely popular leader from the B.J.P. and a three term MLA from Sarsawa Constituency. Raghav Lakhanpal contested and won his first election in the year 2001. He has won three elections to the legislative assembly of the state of Uttar Pradesh representing the Bhartiya Janta Party (B.J.P), since. He contested and won his first election in 2001 when he became the '''youngest member of legislative assembly in the entire country'''. In the year 2007, he was elected to the legislative assembly from ‘Saharanpur’ constituency by a handsome margin and then re-elected for a third term in February, 2012, again by a handsome margin

He has been actively involved in further strengthening the party he represents and has worked at various organizational levels of the B.J.P. within the state of Uttar Pradesh as also at the national level.
