Tiantai County, located east of Zhejiang Province, is famous for [[Tiantai Mountain]]. With total area of 1432.09 sq km and population of 560,000, Tiantai is a middle-scale city including 12 towns, 3 districts and 641 villages. Tiantai county is rich in history, dating back 1800 years ago in Qin Dynasty called Dongyue, later Huipu in Han Dynasty.
Tiantai has extensive natural resources including water power, wind power, mine and biological resources. It tops other cities within the province with a total 51,600kw water power output and is listed in the first batch of model cities of electrification nationwide. A milestone project, Tongbai Pumped Storage Powerstation is close to completion. The investment is estimated up to 4.2 billion RMB. Also Tiantai has vsrioud mine resources, such as silver, lead, zinc, tungsten and aluminum.
The private section constitutes the majority in local economy. There are six mainstay industry including rubber&plastic, industrial fabric, art works, pharmaceutical, machinery and brewer. In 2003, Tiantai gained a GDP of 4.7 billion RMB and a tax revenue of 560 million.
