Jump SQ. (ジャンプSQ.)[1] (short for Jump Square (ジャンプスクエア, Janpu Sukuea) is a Japanese Monthly shōnen manga magazine that debuted on November 2 2007 by Shueisha, Inc. The magazine costs 500 yen and is on sale every 4th of the month. The series from Jump SQ. are put into the JUMP Comics line owned by Weekly Shonen Jump.

History

The magazine was originally made to replace Monthly Shonen Jump due to lack of income. The name of the magazine is pun, the abbreviation for "Square" is "SQ." which also can stand for "Supreme Quality" making a reference to it's full title "Jump Square: Supreme Quality Manga Magazine". Anyway the title still remains correctly Jump SQ. as it is spelled on s-manga.net, SHUEISHA's official website, and anywhere else.

Four series from the magazine Tegamibachi, Rosario to Vampire, Claymore (took a Monthly break, and had three big magazine issues made), and Gag Manga Biyori were serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine until the start Jump SQ. Before Jump SQ.'s official run, 12 back-up issues made in 2007. The issues featured characters from some of the newest series. The 12th back-up issue was declared the very first issue with Embalming -The Another Tale of Frankenstein- on the cover.

At the date of the premier issues 7 promo videos were released on the website. The featured videos had very high quality computer graphics and famous anime music composers doing the music. The page for the commercials are accessible through the box entitled HEART BEAT at the bottom of the Jump SQ. website.

Also for the manga magazine's major break a timer was imbetted at the bottom right corner of the website. This was used to count down to Jump SQ.'s first print run for 2007.

Right after the Embalming issue, (at the very end of 2007) the 2008 issues started. Like every other manga magazine the Issue number restarted; so far there are only 3 issues for 2008. The series Mahō-Tsukai Kurohime which formerly was serialized as a manga series in Monthly Jump; continued on the magazine's website as an Online Manga. A series called Shaman King (also well known in the United States) that was originally serialized in Weekly Jump was going to be continued in Jump SQ.; fliers were handed out to people at Jump Festa 2008 including the news.

In the first three issues of Jump SQ. postcards [2] were available in packets. The packages are in the middle of the magazine around the area of the One-shots. The packs were entitled Vol. 001, Vol. 002, and Vol. 003 and had many series and one-shots from both Jump Square, and Weekly Jump. These titles include Death Note, Naruto, Rosario + Vampire, Dragonaut -The Resonance-, Tennis no Ōjisama, and One Piece.

Also in the Jump SQ. manga magazine a section is devoted to U.S. SHONEN JUMP releases. [3] This was also mentioned in the VIZBlog recently created by VIZ Media, LLC. The first appearance of this section had VIZ's Dr. Brown wearing large amounts of English Naruto merchandise and the new Naruto Shadow Box behind him with a description of everything on the page.
