Subba Rao is alumini of [[Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur]]. He was economist with the World Bank and has worked on various issues in public finance in African and East Asian countries.
Subbarao worked as the joint secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India between 1988 and 1993. Subsequently he became the Finance Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh between 1993 and 1998. On completion of his term, he was deputed as lead economist in the [[World Bank]] from 1994 to 2004. Duvvuri Subbarao (Telugu: దువ్వూరి సుబ్బారావు) (born 11 August 1949)[1] is twenty-second Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Subbarao took over from Y. Venugopal Reddy, the previous governor on 5 September 2008. He is married to Urmila Subbarao, also a IAS bureaucrat.[2]

Education

Subbarao did his schooling from the Sainik School in Korukonda, Andhra Pradesh. He then completed his higher education in Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. After graduation, Subbarao topped the civil services examination in 1972 and was assigned the Andhra Pradesh cadre.[3] Subbarao has also done his MS in economics from Ohio State University, United States and was a Humphrey Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He completed his Ph.D. in Economics from Andhra University.[4]
