Masini was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.[6] She is the daughter of author June Stride[10] and Robert Barry, director of Vietnam Veterans of America.[11] She grew up in Clarksville, Georgia.[6]

She moved to New York City where she waited tables[6] and briefly attended Hofstra University to study business. She withdrew from the university to pursue a career in television acting and modeling.[12] Masini acted in off-Broadway plays, television pilots, commercials and soap operas.[6] She would then meet Al Masini, whom she would marry and work with [6] from 1995 until 1999. Today, she is married to consultant Philip Spencer. Politically, Masini is a conservative. [6].

Career

In 1998, Governor Ben Cayetano of Hawaii proclaimed June 4th of that year "Al and April Masini Day" for their help with the 1998 Miss Universe Pageant.[13]

In the early 2000's Masini was asked by an acquaintance to teach a dating class in Los Angeles about dating for men. Masini found success in the class and would publish her first book, Date Out of Your League, for men. She released her second book Think and Date Like a Man, in 2005.[6] She was featured on the The O'Reilly Factor upon it's release.[14] In 2007, Masini became Old Spice's "Dating and Relationship Editor" for its Voice of Experience campaign.[15][16] That year, she also started two politically themed dating websites: DatingDemocrats.com and DatingRepublicans.com, which serve 8,500 users, combined.[6] Today, Masini authors and moderates an online dating question and answer forum called Ask April. Masini provides free advice to readers, alongside guest experts and the forum's community members.[6] Masini's advice and columns have been featured in USA Today[17], New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, and Men's Health. Masini has also made appearances on Univision, Telemundo and ABC News.

Masini also worked in television, and while married to television producer Al Masini, she was the producer that was able to get Baywatch to move the television show to Hawaii for three years, instead of the proposed move to Australia.[18] She did this by reaching out to the governor and legislators of Hawaii, who advocated for the move.[6][9][19] She also helped produce the feature film Blue Crush[20] and the television show Miss Universe.[21]
