Measuring the World was written in German by Daniel Kehlmann as Die Vermessung der Welt. This novel deals with Gauss and Alexander von Humboldt - who was accompanied on his journeys by Aimé Bonpland - and their two different ways of taking the world's measure, as well as their travels in South America and their meeting in 1828. The translation into English is by Carol Brown Janeway (November 2006). The original German version was a bestseller in Germany in 2005.
