The infobox guidelines clearly stated that we should not list port developers. A common way to circumvent this guideline is to use notelist, which IMO is pretty much the same thing. I think it is due time to discuss whether using notelist to circumvent this guideline should be considered to be acceptable, either updating the guidelines descriptions (explicitly say that it is ok to list them with notes), or reaffirming that the infobox should only list solely the lead developer, and nothing else. :Think should be okay to include as notes, gives them less prominence but still includes so seems like good balance. Examples of including port developer as notes include good articles Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last of Us Part I, and featured article Spider-Man (2018 video game). Note it's template documentation, not a guideline as you say, big difference as guidelines have more process for consensus. ::That's a big WP:OTHERSTUFF to be honest, not to mention that HZD and Spider-Man both have their notes added after their GAN/FAC. Circumventing an existing template documentation is breaking a consensus. It doesn't matter if it is a policy, a guideline, a talk page discussion, or a template documentation. I don't see how this should be accepted if the consensus here doesn't change. OceanHok (talk) 05:19, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

:::This is such an established pattern that, absent something that explicitly forbids it, it has essentially become silent consensus at this point. We can of course arrive at a new consensus forbidding it, but I don't think the EFN usage is "breaking" a consensus so much as slipping through a loophole in the intent. -- ferret (talk) 15:05, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
::::I disagree that it's breaking the intent. I interpret the intent here as to prevent long infoboxes, which the footnote doesn't contribute to. :Oppose adding text that prohibits footnotes. Using them seems to be a generally accepted practice. I've never heard a complaint. Age ratings needs to be a part of the standard template for video games. I think this should be obvious.

Add Sound Design to Video Game credits list
Considering the existence of these regulatory bodies, why doesn't the template for video-games do the same, similar, or better? Unknow0059 (talk) 02:51, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
I am wondering why there are no entries for Sound Design on your Video Game entries on Wiki. There are entries for other game development roles and even an entry for Composer on each video game, but no entry for Sound Design. I recently tried to add a new Sound Design field in the credits of a video game entry, but my edit was removed. Can we please add a new entry for Sound Design in the Video Game credits list. SoundCredit (talk) 11:03, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
:It's been asked for numerous times - it's even in the FAQ at the top of this page - but I can't see it happening anytime soon, as the template needs to take a wide view of things. It's still the case that the vast majority of sound designers are not referenced in reliable sources. Anything in the infobox needs to be referenced in the prose section of the article. - X201 (talk) 11:12, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
::Thanks for getting back to me.
::So, this should be addressed, there are pleny of reliable sources for sound designers on video games these days, and there are already entries for the music composer on video games and not all games even have composers, so this seems a bit out dated.
::If you want a reliable source for video game credits take a look at Moby Games.
::Anyway, could you advice me on how I can get this sorted out ?
::Thanks SoundCredit (talk) 11:28, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
:::You seem to be asking for this because your goal in editing is to insert your own company into infoboxes. Without a non-promotional reason to consider this, I doubt anyone is going to give it serious thought. Note as well that Moby Games is an unreliable source for us, per WP:USERG. -- ferret (talk) 14:15, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Add Age Rating Field

[edit]

ESRB rates games in the US & UK on self-reported data to help inform parents if a given game, its themes and contents are age-appropriate for their children. In Japan, it's CERO.

The infobox for tabletop games includes a field for Age Range.

Considering the existence of these regulatory bodies, why doesn't the template for video-games do the same, similar, or better? Unknow0059 (talk) 02:51, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
