Daniel H. Ragsdale is an American law official and the former Deputy Director of the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) since May 2012. He was named Acting Director of ICE on January 20, 2017 and later dismissed on January 30, 2017 as part of the Monday Night Massacre by President Donald Trump, and Ragsdale remained deputy director.[1][2][3]
Career
U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service
Ragsdale joined the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in 1996, where he worked for the General Counsel's Office.[4]
Immigration & Customs Enforcement
Ragsdale is the former chief management officer of Immigration & Customs Enforcement. He is also the former chief of the Enforcement Law Division. Ragsdale became a deputy director of ICE in 2012. In 2013, his office worked to prosecute a smuggling ring which had been mislabeling the country-of-origin of honey, to skirt anti-dumping laws.[5] In 2014 as director of the ICE, he participated in a high-profile bust of an online child pornography ring.[6] He became acting director of ICE on January 20 following the 2017 inauguration of Donald Trump.[4]
Replacement
President Donald Trump replaced Ragsdale with Thomas Homan on January 30, 2017, shortly after the firing of Acting United States Attorney General Sally Yates. No explanation was given for the personnel change. Ragsdale was to remain in his previous position of Deputy Director.[1]
