Stepan Bandera Street (Lviv)

Stepan Bandera Street (Ukr. – вулиця Степана Бандери) – one of the main streets of Lviv, Ukraine. Located on the border of Halych and Frankivsk districts of Lviv. Bandera Street connects Kopernika and Horodotska Streets. It is the border of the historical place New World.

Architecture

The building of the street dates back to the end of the XIX - beginning of the XX century, the styles of secession and eclecticism prevail here. The most famous building located on Stepana Bandera Street is the complex of buildings of Lviv Polytechnic National University, including the main building. The university building was opened in 1877, the project was designed under the supervision of Julian Zakharevich, the sculptural decoration was done by Leonard Marconi, and the interior was painted by Jan Matejko.

Name

Throughout its history, the street has changed its name several times. The first name of the street, which was during 1840-1886 was the street. New world. The street got its modern name of Stepan Bandera in 1992, it is named after the Ukrainian politician Stepan Bandera.
