WorldQuant University

WorldQuant University (WQU) is an accredited not-for-profit university advancing global education with entirely free offerings in data science. WQU has graduated more than 7000+ students from over 100 countries.[1] It is non-profit tuition-free.[1] It is licensed by the Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana and accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC).[2]

History

WQU was established by Igor Tulchinsky[3][4] in 2015[1] and is funded by the WorldQuant Foundation.[5] After being licensed by the Louisiana Board of Regents the foundation launched WorldQuant University in 2015, it enrolled several hundred students in a free online master's degree program in Quantitative Finance.[5] Sarah McCue, PhD led WorldQuant University’s initial launch and served as its first President.

Daphne Kis, who had previously served on the University's Advisory Board,[2][6] was brought on as CEO in 2016[5] and updated the program and its curriculum to a Master’s Degree in Financial Engineering. At the intersection of financial management, computer science, and data science, this degree offers a broad opportunity to apply the acquired skill set to the finance industry and beyond.

In late 2016, the university was awarded the 2016 Dive Award: Startup of the Year by the publication Education Dive.[7] By June 2017, it had enrolled 700 students from 40 countries.[6][2][6] In 2021, WQU was accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). It is a Strategic Partner of the Milken Institute.[8]

WorldQuant University offers a wide range of degrees. The university offers a two-year Master of Science in Financial Engineering (MScFE) and an 8-16 week, two-unit, Applied Data Science Module.
