The Diamond Valley Football League is an Australian rules football competition based in the Diamond Valley region of suburban Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

The Senior Competition has 26 clubs in 2 divisions,

History

  • 1922 DVFL is founded. Founding clubs: Heildberg FC, Greensborugh FC, Eltham FC
  • 1933 Epping Joins the DVFL
  • 1934 Whittlesea leaves the Panton Hill DFL to join the DVFL
  • 1939 Whittlesea leaves the DVFL and returns to the Panton Hill DFL
  • 1946 Whittlesea returns to DVFL for a single season before leaving to the newly formed Panton Hill FL
  • 1958 North Heildberg joins the DVFL
  • 1973 North Heildberg goes into recession, resumes playing in 1974 season
  • 1965 Plenty Rovers renamed Merdna Football club
  • 1981 Senior Competition is split into 2 divisions
  • 1992 Whittlesea leaves the Riddle DFL and returns to the DVFL
  • 2002 Wallan joins the DVFL

Division 2

Promotion and Relegation

At the end of each year the Premiers of division 2 is promoted to division 1 and the club that finishes last in division 1 is relegated to division 2.

Juniors

The DVFL Juniors Competition has 25 clubs in three divisions. In an average year there about 200 teams competing divided into 8 age groups: Under 9's, Under 10's, Under 11's, Under 12's, Under 13's, Under 14's, Under 15's and Under 17's

When clubs field more than one team in a age group their second team is placed in division 3.

Promotion and Relegation

For Division 2 and 3 the top two clubs are promoted into the above division, based on the combined results of there Under 13's, 15's and 17's For Division 1 and 2 the bottom two clubs are Relegated to the below division, based on the combined results of there Under 13's, 15's and 17's


Former Clubs

The Plenty Rovers FC, came about because of a merger between the Mernda & Doreen, they played at the Doreen Recreation Reserve, from 1932-1964 (1936-1939, 1946 in the DVFL), until they were forced to move out of Doreen due to powerline extensions, and moved to Mernda, were they changed their name back to the Mernda Football club in 1965.

West Preston Lakeside is was formed following the merger of Reservior Lakesie and West Preston.
