This file should be tagged PD-US, have its old revisions undeleted and be and moved to Commons.

Obviously, the original Steamboat Willie film was published in 1928, and is thus in the public domain in the US. This poster is an image from that film, plus the words "WALT DISNEY'S MICKEY MOUSE in STEAMBOAT WILLIE." The addition of the words is not copyrightable.

The only potential copyright in this image would be in the colorization of the frame (if anything). But see this news story about a Mickey Mouse poster from 1928 with this color scheme (reportedly the oldest poster of the character).

Since the color scheme was extant in 1928, there can be no valid claim that the colorization has its own copyright. The color scheme existing on a 1928 poster makes this image, to whatever extent it is new (as a synthesis of the two 1928 elements), below the threshold of originality.

Delete I feel this could be replaced by a user-colourised version of the Public Domain Steamboat Willie rendition of Mickey. At the end of the day, they are all the same cartoon mouse we all know and love as he's that recognisable so I say that this non-free rendition is redundant now that a freely available rendition of Mickey exists. I revise my earlier remark, did some more research this morning. It looks like there is a poster from 1928 that the 50th anniversary edition was based on (though the hat in the SVG is blue instead of green?). Interestingly enough, there is also another version of Mickey with yellow gloves. I still don't think this violates WP:NFCC#1, but it is good to note these things for the future. Keep The page has several images detailing the character's design changes over the years, even if it's not as drastic as some characters have changed it wouldn't make sense to keep only pics of his oldest version, or to only delete this image while keeping other non-free images showing Mickey's evolution. Delete The character hasn't changed beyond recognition since his 1928 iteration (and also it's not like the Steamboat Willie version is obscure or anything; Disney has long continued using that version of the character in their animation studio's production logo). Delete for these purposes, keep if the image can be reintegrated in a fair-use manner elsewhere in the article - Mickey Mouse isn't a character like Amy Rose whose design changed so drastically between Sonic CD and Sonic Adventure as to be barely recognisable. The only real difference between the Steamboat Willie design and the modern design is the addition of red shorts and white gloves. Additionally Steamboat Willie is probably the most famous theatrical short Mickey Mouse has appeared in. So this file was an overwrite of File:Memorial plaque to Professor Porfiriev - Institute of Geological Sciences, Kiev.jpg which was originally at File:Desk.jpg before it was moved (see log). The original file (File:Memorial plaque to Professor Porfiriev - Institute of Geological Sciences, Kiev.jpg) was PD-self, then this file overwrote the original file. I would think that by overwriting the original file, the author (User:Jcorbet4) released this file as PD-self. However, @Pppery: disagrees, hence I am listing this at FFD. Cheers, — MATRIX! Additionally, to the point in the nomination, merely uploading a file to overwrite an existing file, which happens to carry a certain public domain claim, does not strike me as sufficient to constitute a release under that claim. This image (which initially represented the standard edition of Keyshia Cole's Woman to Woman album) is rarely used in certain markets, platforms or even when the album is being discussed, as the deluxe edition cover (File:Keyshia Cole - Woman to Woman (Deluxe).jpg) is rather used instead nearly every single time.
