Revision as of 01:03, 26 January 2024

Bruce Seals had kids in the late 70’s. I used to babysit them. The part about when he had kids is wrong, he had them years earlier, not later.

Dennis Schröder

Hello there. I was just curious on why you removed Category:FIBA Basketball World Cup-winning players at Dennis Schröder. He's definitely one of those players. Dieter Lloyd Wexler 16:30, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry it was a mistake, I meant to paste it in alpha order like the other categories but I must have forgotten “step 2.” Rikster2 (talk) 19:48, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1964 Saint Louis University yearbook error

Hi Rikster2, I have noticed an error in the 1964 Saint Louis University yearbook which has resulted in the incorrect identification of two subjects in pictures you have uploaded: John Benington and Bob Guelker. The misidentification stems from the original yearbook in its Athletic Department section where their names have been switched. The Saint Louis University Libraries Digital Collections has pictures correctly labelled of Benington and Guelker on their website. Both articles have received notices from alleged descendants notifying the pictures as being incorrect (Benington, Guelker). I wanted to let you know before I submit the two pictures for renaming. CalDoesIt (talk) 04:43, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good, thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 05:55, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2000 / 1000 prospects

Armando Bacot is on the cusp. Is there anyone else who might hit it this year? SportsGuy789 (talk) 20:23, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Zach Edey and Hunter Dickinson are both in good shape. Johni Broome of Auburn may be a little short in the points, but has a solid shot. Rikster2 (talk) 20:52, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. We'll keep an eye on all these guys. SportsGuy789 (talk) 15:43, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Edey is just 55 points away... SportsGuy789 (talk) 00:49, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think Baylor Scheierman is going to do it too Rikster2 (talk) 01:19, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
96 points away while averaging 20.5 ppg, I'd sure say so. Honestly, I'm looking forward to the end of the COVID waiver year players. IMO a lot of these all-time lists are tainted by what should be asterisks. SportsGuy789 (talk) 02:02, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn’t really bother me. Volume records are always driven by changes in eligibility etc. they are noted on the list so should be fine. Rikster2 (talk) 03:45, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Edey should hit 2,000 points next game. Rikster2 (talk) 05:11, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gabe Cupps

Hey Rikster!

I've done some cleanup on the Gabe Cupps article here and there, but it still requires a lot more. Just dropping this here in case you're interested in a challenge, seeing as you do a great job creating and updating tons of articles on basketball players. Cheers! Conference USA awards

Hey. Just checking if you know of any good sources for Conference USA awards from around 1999–2000 and 2000–01. I'm drafting Justin Tatum [1] and his website claims he was "Conference USA First Team All Defense player". It doesn't say which year. Most sources I can find cite what his website says, so I was hoping there is an original source from that time period that can verify this claim. Thanks in advance. DaHuzyBru (talk) 03:58, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The record book only has all-defensive records from 2007 onwards, so his claim could be embellished. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:03, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The record book should be correct. Rikster2 (talk) 13:04, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Happy First Edit Day!

Carlos Funchess

Noticed he's on your user page as an article to monitor. I discovered today that he's also a women's DI head coach and won the Maggie Dixon Award in 2019, so he'd be a two-template CPOY. I realistically wouldn't get around to creating him for a very long time, but if you're feeling inspired, he could be a two birds / one stone idea for you. SportsGuy789 (talk) 23:29, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

good idea, I might have time tomorrow. I have him on my list because I have his DOB from his time in the CBA. Rikster2 (talk) 23:30, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah that's awesome, I'm glad you've got a good reliable CBA source on him. Southland POY, CBA pro player, and nationally recognized D1 head coach. A great article in waiting. SportsGuy789 (talk) 23:35, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Funchess is Done-chess. Rikster2 (talk) 16:20, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks great! SportsGuy789 (talk) 01:50, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Insight on NAIA Tourney MVPs during divisional era?

I've been cleaning up Chuck Taylor Most Valuable Player Award but came across a conundrum. All of the players listed on this article between 1992–2020 are the NAIA Division I Tournament MVPs, but there was also a Division II in that span. Do you know if there is a second / concurrent Chuck Taylor Tourney MVP Award for the DII guys, and if so, should we incorporate them into this article somehow?

The NAIA is an underserved area of WP:CBBALL, and while I'm not ready to start fleshing out player bios or expanding tournament articles, I think getting the right MVPs in order is a decent start. (On a related note, you probably noticed I've been on a newspapers.com tear for the CPOY lists. I found the motivation to start really cleaning these up and making them presentable at a level worthy of the efforts we've put in for well over a decade on this wikiproject. I find that robust refs lists using newspapers.com "adds something" to the professionalism of the pages. I will probably add refs to this NAIA Tourney MVP list soon too). SportsGuy789 (talk) 15:25, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Let me dig around a little and see what I can find. Are you still getting newspapers.com through Wikipedia? I tried it a little while back and it seems I lost access and I can’t request it again Rikster2 (talk) 15:38, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Some of the tourney mvps can be found here, but the list isn’t comprehensive Rikster2 (talk) 15:42, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's some issue with the newspapers.com URL structure (they changed it, or something), so the Wikipedia editors' workaround is to use a proxy link. More info found here. Use this link to get into it: https://www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org. Keep me posted with the DI / DII findings. SportsGuy789 (talk) 15:47, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you follow that link I posted and use the drop downs to search D2 men’s basketball and then “tournament mvp” it gives you the players from 2009-2017 (except 2016). Not sure why just those ones but I have a couple offline sources I can check. I think I even have a recent NAIA D2 final four program somewhere. Rikster2 (talk) 16:26, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good initial source. But super weird they list just those years. I'll blame it on shoddy NAIA information director recordkeeping and continue to plug away. SportsGuy789 (talk) 04:57, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t have any sources to help. What I thought was an NAIA D2 program was actually an NJCAA D2 program. I think the only way is to go year by year and research them. 1992 was David James of Grace - looked that one up on newspapers.com. Rikster2 (talk) 15:20, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was able to use the yearly Wikipedia articles' infoboxes (ex.) to see who was listed. I probably should have started there, lol. I'll still vet each of those players with newspapers.com sources but the list should be complete now. I revamped Chuck Taylor Most Valuable Player Award last night. Jimmy Butler Eastern Conference Finals MVP

This award should be in the info box as it's in Nikola Jokic box, Stephen Curry box and Jayson Tatum box. All three conference finals MVPs are in those boxes. 75.108.232.164 (talk) 01:34, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

shouldn’t be in any of them, that’s not a good reason Rikster2 (talk) 04:31, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
