change Delhi to National Capital Region (NCR). It more accurately represents the largest metropolitan area in India. Pull the numbers previously referenced in the the wikipedia article-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_metropolitan_areas_in_India

The source has been cited in the same list.

although this metric dwarfs the other cities on the list, the rapid growth of National Capital Region (NCR) in India, interchangeably used with Delhi, more accurately reflects the daily life of citizens of the region who must often travel as much as 10,000 km just to get to work, meet family or sell their wares. Update to Urban area section

Demographia have released their 2023 edition of the list mentioned as the source for the Urban area statistics, should this be updated? 2001:999:585:9E67:B16B:604E:D813:BE84 (talk) 06:26, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Shanghai metropolitan area

According to a report that I have linked bellow there exists a definition for the Shanghai metropolitan area that actually surpasses Tokyo in population.

If you add the population of the surrounding countryside and other cities, it can definitely exceed the population of Tokyo. But it doesn't make sense. 完颜吴乞买 (talk) 02:01, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There are too many mistakes about the population of Chinese cities

Overall, the numbers for Shanghai are too high, and the numbers for other Chinese cities are too low, which is ranked by the "urban population" data from the 2020 census.

“七人普”数据:我国超大城市共7个 城区常住人口超千万--经济·科技--人民网 (people.com.cn)

However, there are also many problems with this data, such as Chongqing, Jinan and other large-caliber cities, and many other cities have been added to the data, such as Wanzhou, Yongchuan, Qianjiang, Laiwu, Jiyang and other cities. Guangzhou and Foshan are actually the same city, but when calculated separately, Changsha, Zhengzhou and other cities are not statistically large. For example, Changsha County is actually part of Changsha City, but the population data is not included, and the same is true of Zhongmu County and Xingyang City in Zhengzhou. 完颜吴乞买 (talk) 02:09, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is also data on the area of the urban area, in Table 2-3, or 2-2. However, this is not entirely accurate, for example, in Shanghai, which is fully included in the city area, but in fact the census does not calculate the urban population according to this range.

There are a lot of data that are contradictory or have different statistical calibers, so they can cause a lot of controversy.
Let's use this as a reference! 完颜吴乞买 (talk) 02:22, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

According to Luanda, Anogla's official national website, their metropolitan population is above 9 Million (9,079,811) https://luanda.gov.ao/ao/

The 'List', 'Metropolitan Area - Population' needs an update according to this information. Poltava9 (talk) 00:05, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Geardona (talk to me?) 18:53, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merge 2 articles into this one?

I propose merging List of cities with over one million inhabitants and the population chart in Megacity (which could then be transculded) into this list and using the more recent statistics in those articles. The reason I want to merge them is because they overlap a lot. The reason I propose merging into this one is because it has a lot more readership. OrdinaryGiraffe (talk) 01:06, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it is not possible to merge both lists because they are too different in style and substance. My idea would be to change the title of the List section with city proper, urban area and metro population into "Overview" and add the list of the million-plus cities below it with some explanation.--Afus199620 (talk) 20:17, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Per source provided, Sydney was "a medium-sized city with 1 to 5 million inhabitants" in 2018. As the request doesn't include any new reliable source, it's impossible to complete the request. Respublik (talk) 14:33, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
