He spent time as a school teacher, principal, lawyer and businessman before entering local politics. Proceeding to the national scene as a member of the [[Conservative]] party, which he led from 1927-1938, Bennett was [[Canada/Prime Ministers|Prime Minister]] from 7 August 1930 - 23 October 1935.

The Right Honourable Richard Bedford Bennett (3 July 1870 - 26 June 1947) was born in Hopewell Hill, New Brunswick, Canada.

He studied at Dalhousie University, graduating in 1893 with an LL.B.

In 1896, he was initiated into Miramichi masonic Lodge #187 in Chatham, New Brunswick.

He spent time as a school teacher, principal, lawyer and businessman before entering local politics. Proceeding to the national scene as a member of the Conservative party, which he led from 1927-1938, Bennett was Prime Minister from 7 August 1930 - 23 October 1935.
