Rosa Luxemburg (March 5, 1870 - January 15, 1919) was a German politician and revolutionary.
Rosa Luxemburg was born in Lublin, now Poland. She was a leader of the German communist party during the Weimar republic. Together with Karl Liebknecht she was the leader of the "Spartakusbund" (spartacists).
In December 1918 she co-founded the Communist Party of Germany (KPD - Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands), which tried to seize power in January 1919 in an uprising called the Spartacist revolt, which ended by her and Karl Liebknecht's capture in Berlin. On the same day, both were killed by the soldiers of the "Freikorps".
