Cristian Taraborrelli is an artist whose work as a set designer and director is inseparable, characterized by a unique aesthetic and poetics. His career began in 1996, but it was from 2006 that his authorial dimension clearly emerged, thanks to the freedom he gained in directing shows. Taraborrelli seeks a balance in the constant instability and metamorphosis of theater, using suspensions, reversals, and distortions[1].

In 2002, with Don Giovanni, and in 2013, with Can't Pay? Won't Pay!, Taraborrelli created set designs that defy gravity and transform the stage. In 2009, with Gertrude - The Cry, he used an inclined mirror to create a visual illusion without the use of cameras. In 2010, with La ronde du Carré, and in 2012, with L'elisir d'amore, he experimented with proportions and perspective illusions.

Over the years, Taraborrelli also integrated digital technologies, such as video mapping, to completely transform the scenic space. A significant example is the projection on the facade of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma to bring opera closer to the public. A project in progress, Opera Go, uses augmented reality to bring opera into the streets of Rome.

In 2014, Taraborrelli used motion tracking and balance in Ventrosoleil, where performers interact with virtual elements. His aesthetic is characterized by the use of lettering and the visualization of words on stage, as seen in La Jura (2015), where he shows the scene changes live.

Taraborrelli's work represents a fusion between the playwright and the director, redefining the role of the set designer as a creator of both analog and digital visions. His intermedia approach integrates elements of dance, cinema, photography, and video, projecting him toward a new performative aesthetic.[2]
