@User:Archives908 I'm about to clean this article by removing the flag images of town/villages that are not cities. I also removed the geographic regions e.g. 'Northern Europe', 'Eastern Europe', etc. and sorted all country sections in alphabetic order. I'm also busy at Dutch Wikipedia, by the way. :I restored the last stable version because it seems you are using WP:OR to classify settlements as "cities" or "towns". Like I said in my WP:ES, countries maintain different classifications for what may constitute a city or town. Some countries with smaller populations classify towns as cities, while some countries with higher populations have lower thresholds for what constitutes as a city. There isn't a set global standard and it certainly is not up to you to determine what classifies a city or town on this article. If you want to update the inclusion criteria, then you should start a thread here on the talk page first and seek consensus from other editors. Please do not proceed with modifying the list until that discussion is had. Thanks, Archives908 (talk) 14:24, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

Reform in this article

For anyone reading this, should we start making articles for city flags per country like how the US has an article exclusively for its city flags. Flag Mechanic (talk) 18:23, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

Italy has a "Further information: List of city flags in Italy" link that it's broken. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.9.126.85 (talk) 18:11, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion criteria

By definition, towns, villages, municipalities and any other type of subdivision are not cities and do not belong in this article. The onus to achieve consensus to include them is on whoever wishes to include them. FDW777 (talk) 10:16, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

But why? can it rename to Flags of populated places in Europe? or List of city, town and village flags in Europe? good idea or not? 86.95.173.151 (talk) 15:07, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

or maybe spliting more sections into Article like how Lists of Japanese municipal flags, it also contains towns and villages. 86.95.173.151 (talk) 15:12, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
please tell me, I don't want town and village flags removed :( 86.95.173.151 (talk) 15:13, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
and also, Flags of cities of the United States does actually includes flags of towns, consolidated city-counties, villages, municipalities, and unincorporated areas, in addition to de jure cities. 86.95.173.151 (talk) 15:16, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That other articles contain bad content is not a reason to include bad content in this article. Numerous flags have already been forked off into other articles, the section at List of city flags in Europe#United Kingdom. That was apparently due to loading time issues, which will only return if villages and other minor flags are added. FDW777 (talk) 15:19, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
but I absolutly cited sources at Flags of cities, towns and villages in the United Kingdom 86.95.173.151 (talk) 15:25, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
so should we start making articles for city flags per country like how the Vereinigte Staaten has an article exclusively for its city town and village flags? 86.95.173.151 (talk) 15:48, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe I said that at all. If it isn't a city, it doesn't belong on this article. FDW777 (talk) 16:04, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My proposed solution

Sir, I have a solution:

Just create a page "List of town and village flags in Europe" and move all town and village flags to the new article, so only city flags remains in the article, I hope it works. Thanks! Alexphangia (talk) 16:49, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@FDW777: so is this a good idea? Alexphangia (talk) 16:54, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's an extremely bad idea due to page loading issues, which have been a recurrent problem from the parent article all the way down. See Talk:Lists of city flags#Potential solution to article problem. FDW777 (talk) 17:04, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
