It is primarily notable for the famous Felsted School that dates back to the 16th century.
Felsted is first mentioned in the Domesday Book, as a manor. William the Conqueror gave it to the bishop of Bayeux, then to Caen Abbey, as a source of income. Richard Rich was later an important benefactor of the Felsted church.
