Main Page error reports

To report an error you have noticed on the current Main Page or tomorrow's Main Page please add it to the appropriate section below. You can do this by pressing the [edit] button to the right of the appropriate section's heading. Also, please sign your post using four tildes ( ~~~~ )

Note that the current date and time are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which may not coincide with your local time zone. The next day's featured article of the day, picture of the day, and anniversaries update at midnight (00:00) according to UTC. The current time is 13:41 on September 7, 2024 (UTC). (Update)

Once an error has been fixed, the error report will be removed from this page; please check the page's history to verify that the error has been rectified and for any other comments the administrator may have made. Lengthy discussions should not take place here, and should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere.

References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error, and a suggested rewording is helpful with a stylistic complaint. The main page usually defers to supporting pages when there is disagreement, so it is best to achieve consensus and make any necessary changes there first.

Errors in In the news

The Obama blurb should be changed immediately to:

• Senator Barack Obama of Illinois (pictured) secures the Democratic nomination for the Presidency of the United States, becoming the first African-American to lead a major party in the United States.

as that is the only version of the blurb that has been proposed on the ITN/C page, and it differs substantially from the one used to highlight McCain's reaching of that milestone in a way that give Obama's accomplishment less legitimacy than McCain's. Also, it ignores the most ITNworthy aspect of the story, which is that he is an African-American. -- Grant.Alpaugh 02:58, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Concur. This suggestion has been raised several times before and I have yet to see substanial objection to the point. Like it or not, this is extremely noteable, arguably more noteable then the selection of a candidate itself at least outside the US and it's no point being 'colour-blind' if the world is not and in fact was far less colour-blind in the past which is what makes this all the more noteable. This is also similar to the way we had Royal as the first female candidate in the French election and we would have mentioned first female if Hilary was selected. As to the second point, was this added too early? I believe when McCain was added he had already basically accepted the nomination and every other candidate who had a chance of winning had conceded. While it's unclear for sure whether Clinton is going to concede we should have at least waited, if we didn't, for him to actually say he had the nomination. Perhaps this was a case of people forgetting ITN is not news and therefore supposed to be as accurate as possible rather then simply reporting something as soon as a news agency says it so. Errors in Did you know?

Error in units convertor

One of the lines shows up for me as: "that at 1,237-metre (Expression error: Unexpected < operator ft) elevation". Same for the other conversion between acres and hectares.
