James Cranswick Tory (1864-1944) was a Nova Scotia businessman and politician. Born in 1862 to Robert Kirk Tory and Anorah Ferguson in Guysborough Countyand lived in the village of Guysborough. He attended McGill University in Montreal and worked at Sun Life Assurance Company. Tory served as a Liberal MLA for Guysborough County in the Legislature of Nova Scotia from 1911-1923. He was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia and served from 1925 to 1930.
