There is no institution of higher education in the United States of America that bears the name University of New York. However, in confusion, it is possible that such a reference may regard the following:

• New York University, a private institution founded in New York City in 1831.
• State University of New York, New York's multi-campus public university system, organized in 1948.
• City University of New York, a multi-campus public university system in New York City, created in 1964 from the City College of New York and other public, New York City government-supported colleges and graduate centers.
• University of the State of New York, New York's state umbrella organization for education.

In fiction

• University of New York was a fictional university modelled on New York University, used in the American television series Felicity (1998 – 2002), set in New York City.
