He was a High school teacher and principal, Milford, New Hampshire from 1867 to 1870. He was in private practice in St. Paul, Minnesota from 1871 to 1892. He was an Alderman, St. Paul, Minnesota from 1878 to 80 and from 1885 to 1892.
