Revision as of 19:01, 23 June 2009
The 1994/95 season in Dutch football saw Ajax Amsterdam winning the title in the Eredivisie, while Feyenoord Rotterdam won the Dutch National Cup. For the first time in history of Dutch professional football a club stayed unbeaten in the highest league. Ajax' only loss in 49 official matches came in the quarterfinals of the KNVB Cup, when it lost to eventual champions Feyenoord.
There were five players who didn't miss a single minute in the Eredivisie this season: Michael Reiziger and Frank de Boer (Ajax), Wilfried Brookhuis (NEC Nijmegen), Maarten Atmodikoro (Dordrecht'90), and Hans Vonk (RKC Waalwijk).
Since 1991 the annual opening of the new football (soccer) season is played between the reigning champions and the Cup Winners of the previous season. The Cup was named PTT Telecom Cup for three years (1991-1993), then Super Cup and since 1996 the trophy played for is officially called the "Johan Cruijff Schaal", named after Dutch football legend Johan Cruijff.
