OOK's highest priority task - here's a piece of it for you

Danger,

I'm splitting this task up for everyone on the team to work on...

The government branches sections are in error on many of the country outlines.

Since those are in article space, we need to fix those ASAP! This is our most important task right now.

Here's a list of links that goes right to that section: User:The Transhumanist/List of country outline government sections.

I'm working on U-Z.

Your task is to complete and correct these:

WP:LINKY is especially useful for this.

Let me know when you are done, so I can check them over.

Thank you.

Good luck.

Have fun.

Hi WikiGnome!

So, you'd like to help out with the indexes, eh?

I've got an assignment for you. Pretty easy, since most of the links are already in place.

What I need you to do is use WP:LINKY on the following list:

User:The Transhumanist/Sandbox07 - they're all links to see also sections of country articles.

Assuming you have Linky installed, and you use Firefox... You select an area of the page by holding down the left button and dragging your mouse. Try not to select an area with more than 99 links in it. Then you right click. In the drop down menu, choose Linky, then "Open selected links in tabs".

Move between tabs with Ctrl-Tab. Nuke a tab with Ctrl-W.

Each tab will display a see also section of a country article. What I need you to do is check each one to make sure the Index of x-related articles (where "x" is the country's name) is included as a link in the see also section for that country.

If the old page name (List of x-related topics) is in the section, check to see if it's a redirect to the index. If it is, replace it with the index link.)

For the sections that are missing the index link altogether, add it in!

Easy as pie.

(I've been working on inserting Outline links, so you might run into me).

Thank you.

Good luck.

Have fun.

P.S.: I don't remember, do you know how to use Linky?

I think Linky crashed my browser the last few times I used it; I get by without it fine. I'm finished with this task and have collected a list of the countries/territories without indices. I'll go through the list again to see if I missed anything, but when I'm done I'll edit your worklist to indicate which ones need to be done. I'm participating in WP:DRAMAOUT, so I might develop some indexes over the week. --Gimme danger (talk) 04:00, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Checking over stuff I done

I finally bit the bullet and looked over Outline of Djibouti#Government and politics of Djibouti. I was quite unsure of what to do, so I wanted to make sure I didn't mess up before tackling any others.

I also finished the index task that you asked me to do, everything except Honduras, which is still locked. I also started Index of Benin-related articles and want to see what you thought of that. (It's still very much a work in progress, I just wasn't expecting the work to take so long.) --Gimme danger (talk) 07:26, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You got a lot done. Thank you for jumping in.
For the outline, if you can't find the missing topics on Wikipedia, use Google. I've added in the cabinet and the ministries (See Outline of Japan#Executive branch of the government of Japan for a good example). I'll let you finish the judiciary branch. (Hint: look for "Judiciary of", "Court system of", "Judicial system of", and "Legal system of").
The index task revealed an unforeseen problem, but your updating of the links was the important thing (keep up the excellent work), and provides me with a good place to start my next task.
I've touched up the Index of Benin-related articles. I added a short lead to help identify the subject of the index, and added a references section to handle the reference that's in the lead, then I moved the lists to their own section at the end, and then I configured the CompactTOC8 template using parameters (setting its look, and making sure all the sections were included).

Outline Update - Basking in the light of knowledge - 07/28/2009

Phase two of outline integration (de-orphanizing outlines by adding links leading to them into article see also sections) is nearly complete. The better that outlines are integrated into the encyclopedia, the more use they will be to readers.

Due to greater exposure through outline integration, and with most of the OOK team on school summer vacation, development activity on outlines has increased a lot...

New members
Be sure to welcome our newest members to the team:
News: Outline of Palestine survives AfD
The outline was nominated for deletion for being too general in scope. The consensus was overwhelmingly for keeping it.
The most memorable comment was posted by Mandsford: I like the poetic name, anyway. [Outline of Palestine]. "Master Plan of Pakistan" and "Rough Sketch of Bangladesh" would be good too.
Special thanks to Tiamut for greatly improving the outline, and helping to save it from AfD.
To keep track of outline AfDs and other outline-related discussions, see WP:OOKDISC.
Who's active on Wikipedia this summer?
Courtesy of Rich Farmbrough, here's a list of editors by their edit counts over the previous month (8th June to 8th July).
It would be nice to get the most prolific Wikipedians involved with WP:WPOOK. If you can, find a good reason to contact one or more of them, and invite them to work on a relevant outline - or all 500!
Who's been up to what?
  • Buaidh, Highfields, and Gimme danger have been working on the government sections of the country outlines. Being that there are about 240 of these, with critical information being filled in on each, this is by far the hardest and most important chore of this WikiProject right now.
  • Penubag is working on a redesign of the top OOK page.
  • Tiamut has done an incredible job developing the Outline of Palestine.
  • And kudos also go to Eu.stefan for his work on Outline of Buddhism.

Thank you.

Here's what else has been going on...

New outlines
Recently created outlines include:
Recently converted to outlines
These outline articles, which were named "List of...", have been converted to an OOK format and added to the OOK:
Recently merged into outlines
There are a lot of "List of" articles that are outlines. Some of them are on the same subjects as the "Outline of" articles. The following articles have been recently merged into OOK pages:
Outlines that have been tagged
Tags are requests to fix a problem or improve an article in a particular way. Unless we want the tags to sit there for an extended period of time cluttering up the outlines (we don't), it is up to us to fulfill those requests or attend to underlying misassumptions (if any).
I can't stress enough the importance of watching
With so many outlines (now over 500), and a growing number of support pages (guidelines, wikiproject pages, etc.), I can no longer keep up. I need your help watching over it all.
If you'd like to omnisciently view everything "from above", see this page:
  • WP:OOKWL - watchlist for copying and pasting into your raw watchlist.
Or go to these pages (and click on "Related changes" in the sidebar's toolbox menu):
  • WP:OOKRC - a version of the above watchlist for use with "Related changes".
  • WP:OOKDIR - a list of key pages related to the OOK, along with their shortcuts.
  • WP:OOKDISC - list of discussions pertaining to outlines.
What's next?

There are a lot of contradictions in guidelines related to outlines. I'll be turning my attention to fixing those.

The number of "Outline of" articles is rapidly catching up to portals, and will probably pass them by the end of the summer!

Keep up the excellent work.

P.S.: Gimme danger

You beat me to Eu.stefan with a barnstar!

Nicely done.

The Transhumanist    01:15, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Does OoK have a barnstar of it's very own? I have an idea for one, but know nothing whatsoever about making graphics. --Gimme danger (talk) 02:13, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We're working on one at User talk:Penubag/Sandbox3
And speaking of awards, I stopped by to ask you this...

We're working on something special...

...to award Buaidh for all his hard work.

It's at User:Penubag/Sandbox3.

But it's not done yet. Feel free to help improve it.

I'm hoping that everyone involved with the WP:WPOOK will sign it (please sign without a timestamp).

Thank you.
