::Thank you Nancy. Pleasure to speak with you. I will tear into the article Charles A.S. Hall, later this afternoon and am looking forward to it. If you would look in, or add suggestions that would be good. I see you put it back up. I will address those issues you mention. Here is an example of something I just did that will be similar but different. I just got started on that one and will improve it later today or soon also David A Sonnenfeld which was a tiny stub which was very messed up. Still needs work as said as to formatting more ref/notes, section titles etc. - Regards. skip sievert (talk) 17:18, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

What's going on w/ Shelby, Mississippi

Nancy: I follow your contribs some time and am wonder struck by all that you do. Must say, I am impressed! Can you summarize for me, if it's worth your time, as to what in the world is going on w/ Shelby, Mississippi. You and M.D. have obviously crossed swords over the last year or so. It is amazing to me how you would even find out about this obscure site being vandalized. And, how do you recognize such subtle vandalism? Anyway, it's fun to watch you work. I've done my little 23 articles for the canal and hope to learn more by watching you. On another subject, the Washington Post had a front page article on the editor who works on the Washington, D.C., User:Epicadam. It was nice to see someone get credit for all that you editors do without seeking the credit. P.S. Is there a spell check here somewhere? GloverEpp (talk) 01:20, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Shelby thing has been going on for a couple of years now - the vandalism there is all the work of one person and it's quite subtle as you say, however it follows a clear pattern and I've been watching it for so long that I'm tuned in to it now. As far as I know it is all down to one person - originally the M.D Lawes account - it all got a bit out of hand about a year ago, turned a little nasty and personal & ended up in a sockpuppet investigation. Regarding spell-checking I'm not aware of a Wikipedia spell-check option but I edit using Mozilla Firefox as my browser (generally I find it better for many aspects of Wikipedia than Internet Explorer), Firefox has a dictionary/spell checker plug-in which highlights errors as I type. Albawardi page

Hello Nancy,

Thank you for taking the time and reading my page. I created the page Albawardi Group purely for non-commercial use. This was my first ever artle to write on Wikipedia. I read the article for first timers and I hope I followed them correctly. Please allow me to post that article once again.

If not, please specify what I did wrong so that I can correct it and be able to post the article again.

Thanks again, Mishal —Preceding unsigned comment added by Baw1957 (talkcontribs) 06:39, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Without going in to the question of whether the company meets Wikipedia's notability requirement, the reason that the page was deleted is that it was a cut and paste of copyright material. Wikipedia cannot accept copyright material and all text on Wikipedia must be able to be released under the GFDL "copyleft" licence. The steps to go through to release the text are noted on your user talk page however as the whole article was lifted directly from the company's website and thus raises issues of neutrality and advertising, you might be better off writing something from scratch - making sure of course that the notability requirement is met! Streatley

I was just wondering why you got rid of the bit in streatley about the new house that's causing runctions. It's a notable event (see [1],[2],[3], and the fact that one of the people leading the charge (and threatening to break the law) is notable herself peta buscombe - she's a public figure threatening civil and criminal damage.

The planning site on the west berks website proved it was for Darryl Boulton [4].

Admittedly the Geri bit may be rumour - but it was in the sources quoted.

I don't know how much more notable you want something to get before it should be included? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Petsco (talkcontribs) 12:19, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst recognising that to the people involved it is of the utmost importance I guess I took the view that a current minor planning dispute was not of particular note, and was, in the great scheme of salient information about Streatley, rather trivial. No great axe to grind though and would not consider it an edit war if a mention was put back in..... but I think you'd be right to drop the Geri bit though - repeating (apparently false) rumour isn't very encyclopaedic!! Deleting the page

I probably used the wrong template on User:KENs pudler. Do you know how to delete the user account or maybe rename the user account to something else? It's not the content on the page that's a problem, it's the user name. Nsaa (talk) 17:16, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I did wonder why you had created the page only in order to request it's deletion!!! With problematic usernames the usual remedy is to block them indefinitely. As this user already has an indef block for vandalism we can consider it job done. Best, Nancy talk 19:02, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My article on Brett Fletcher

I've been trying to create this page for a long time - it keeps getting deleted. Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Mr. Fletcher has written several fascinating books, has his first one recorded in the Library of Congress, his poetry has been published internationally, etc...Am I adding things I shouldn't? Please let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you for your time.

lchiniching —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lchiniching (talkcontribs) 07:45, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The basic problem is that whilst I am sure that Mr Fletcher's work is indeed fascinating, he has not yet met Wikipedia's general notability guidelines for biographies and particular our notability guidelines for authors. This was confirmed in a deletion discussion back in June which means that the biography will continue to be removed until the required notability standard is attained. I can appreciate how frustrating this may appear to you but equally I'm sure you can understand why Wikipedia needs to benchmark such things. All best, Nancy talk 11:50, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What is La Robine on Template:Canal du Midi map

Hi, me again. Do you know what La Robine is on the CdM template. It is in between La Nouvelle Branch to summit level and Truilhas Bridge. I walked the tow path in that area and have looked at satelite images and can't figure out what it is supposed to be. My best guess is that it is a marina. If so, it's position is misplaced. The marina is before the bridge, coming from Cesse Aqueduct.

Here is the area I'm talking about. 43°16′54″N 2°55′08″E / 43.28177°N 2.91894°E / 43.28177; 2.91894 The cross hairs are right on top of what I think is the Truilhas Bridge. Cesse aqueduct is to the left. The marina is very close to the bridge on the left and the entrace to Nouvelle Branch is to the right.

Here are my photos, if that helps any:

If La Robine is a marina then this must be it.
This is industrial site between bridge and entrance to Canal du Jonction - Maybe this is it.
I think this is Truilhas Bridge.

GloverEpp (talk) 18:58, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

mmmmn, you've stumbled upon an error that I found when I cycled from Paraza to the junction with La Nouvelle branch in September. We had the faithful Rolt with us and we noticed that he had La Robine - which as you correctly surmised is the marina - out of sequence. Which raises a Wiki problem; on wikipedia the rule is "verifiability not truth" - so... the reliable source for the template], i.e. Rolt, says that La Robine is one side of the bridge, our personal observation in real life and on maps says it is the other.... I pondered the dilemma when I got home and vowed to find another WP:RS to support changing the template but haven't managed to locate one so far (OK, haven't really tried very hard...... yet....). Now you have reminded me I am tempted to WP:IAR and change it anyway. Nancy talk 19:47, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nancy Perhaps the marina moved! There is a big commercial facility on the same side of the canal as the marina. Perhaps they bought the old marina site and it just moved under the bridge to the other side? You can see their concrete embankment in the second photo. When you say, "... faithful Rolt ..." are you speaking of "Sea to Sea" or another book? So, the ball's in your court. all the best.. GloverEpp (talk) 22:45, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nancy If you do change it, you might also call it Port-la-Robine as done in
Also, above reference and the sign
You are here
say that the turn is at 168.5 instead of the 168.7 shown on the template. Port-la-Robine is at PK168 in above reference.
Here's a map of Port de la Robine: Map
GloverEpp (talk) 18:12, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Changed! (name too - you're right it is clearer). When I mention Rolt it is From Sea to Sea - my edition has an itinerary in Appendix D listing all the features of the canal (bridges, locks, marinas, quays, tunnel, junctions....) & their km from Toulouse which I used as the source for the template. Recreating page

I was thinking of recreating a page you deleted. I think I have a lot of notable information I can add. The page was of a person Charles A.S. Hall who is well known according to this recently, but also known as the person behind this workshop. This is his other website connected with what he is doing here. This all seems interesting and notable to me and I think I can create a good article with material associated also like this he is associated with. Here is another I just found here, where he is the chairperson. I assume none of this information was in the previous article or not connected well? What do you think? This guy is a well known author on Systems ecology one of foremost, and related things so I could wikify an article about him pretty easily. Your opinion? I am not connected in any way to the person or institution, but have found out about this because of my own interests. Comment? skip sievert (talk) 15:49, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have absolutely no issue with any editor resurrecting an article title that I have previously speedily deleted provided that it addresses the reasons the original was removed - in this case notability. You'll obviously need to show that Hall meets the criteria at WP:BIO (and possibly more specifically WP:PROF?) with reference to multiple, independent reliable sources - if you do that then there should be no problem. Best of luck, Nancy talk 16:08, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Nancy. Pleasure to speak with you. I will tear into the article Charles A S Hall, later this afternoon and am looking forward to it. - Regards. skip sievert (talk) 17:18, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
